A small update.....

Got some parts back from powdercoating. Looking clean. I have a few more bits to have powdercoated while waiting for the block to be completed at the machine shop. Hope to have everything back for assy and reinstall at the end of October.

Thanks to Smoking Gun Powder Coating in ATL as always. Top notch work as usual! Highly recommended.

^^Got some parts back from powdercoating...

So Beno, I see that the timing gear cover got powder coated. I chickened out PCing mine & ended up painting it with RustSeal... cuz I was nervous that the solder holding the seal retainer in the cover would melt in the PC oven... So it turned out well for you? Please take a look at it's orientation in the cover and let all of us know that it turned out just fine.... pretty please? I would have much preferred to have PC it.
Thanks!

I will be working on the engine piecemeal for the next three weeks since my father is visiting from Turkey.

Over $400 in new hardware ordered today. :)

Getting ready for a final push the last weekend of November and first week of January.

Hope to have my truck running by my birthday on January 3rd.

Nice present for myself. :)

Looks Good. Did you dad borrow your house shoes?

It's a work of art, Beno.

Thank you. Long way to go still though-- I have a boat load of new JIS hardware coming to attach things.

Oh and I decided while I was doing this correctly to install a new crankshaft pulley as well. No use in not going all the way at this point.

:)

The world's most expensive 2F ever.......:)

Decided to start some preliminaries:

Forgot FIPG at work so I set the oil pan gasket on the new pan overnight.

Then cleaned the PS block, taped if off and threw my first coat of paint on it.

I cleaned up the bolt holes for the oil pan as well with my Cornwell rethread Kit. M8x1.25

Part number for the oil pan bolts with captive washers. Made in USA. :( One of the few things on this engine that will be US sourced Toyota parts.

I am really in no rush in all honesty. I completely want this engine to be the best engine I can make it using as many new parts as possible. I would really like to document everything so that someone (crazy) in the future might be able to refer to this thread in some meaningful manner.

When it's all said and done, the only parts that will have been reused will be the following:

1. Block casting (machined, almost all new innards)
2. Head casting (machined, all new innards)
3. Carby (JimC rebuild)
4. Manifolds (cleaned and machined true)
5. Timing plate (though I could have gotten a new one)
6. Brackets and engine brackets
7. Crankshaft (shaved down .25mm)
8. Main bearing caps
9. Conrods (they were gone through though in the process of fitting everything into place)
10. Dizzy (recurved and rebuilt by JimC)

Pretty much everything else will be completely new OEM Toyota.

Brings warmness into my heart.

Careful with the metal shavings created by tapping those holes.
