What oil and filter do you have and how often do you change (1 Viewer)

Amazon is accurate only to the data M1 supplies. I just spun a M209 on & no problems. The upshot is my old Harley oil filter wrench fits the M1 filter(but not the Toyo)

169,000 miles and I just switched from Toyota Dino oil to M1EP, 5/30. It's prob my imagination but I swear Im hearing more engine noise while its idling.

Lots of different opinions on this subject in here.... I use the Napa gold 1516, closest in internal filtering element area to the no longer available yota yzzd3 filter, and it is half as much as the m1-209 filter. Trop-Artic syn 5w30, and I change the oil every 4K-5k miles which is probably overkill but just what I do and I tow a pretty heavy 16' car trailer around frequently.

Toyota Oil Filter (Made in Thailand) vs. the competition........

Napa filters are great, some of the best out there.

I use M1 EP with the M1 209 filter and change the oil every 5,000 miles. Overkill? Sure, but it gives me piece of mind and makes me feel better about the truck whether it helps in the long run or not. So worth the extra money spent in my book.
Per the oil analysis that Blackstone has done I could double, or more, the mileage between changes but I like sticking to the 5k mile change.

My Toyota dealer does an oil change (Factory filter, Valvoline) rotates the tires and tops off the fluids for $25. I can't do it myself for that much... I change it every 3.5-5k with no consumption between changes, I'll crest 300k this summer.

Anybody using or know anyone who uses Kendall gt-1 full synthetic 5w-30 with liquid titanium? A friend of mine builds Subaru's and he uses it in the turbo cars. Said M1 doesn't hold up as well. Probably a non issue here (unless maybe your running a TRD supercharger) but maybe suited for a modded 1uz engine.
The shop I go to uses Kendall. I've been thinking about using it but unsure because I don't know a lot about it. Never heard of it until he mentioned it

I use a Napa Gold filter and Napa 5w-30. I'm old fashioned and change at 3k miles. I have 121k on my '00 LX470.

Using that combination, I've brought my wife's '02 Camry to 287k (and counting), my old '99 Suburban to 219k, and our '01 Volvo S60 to 194k (and counting, too).

This past week I did the valve cover gaskets on the Camry, and the top of the heads were beautiful. No sludge in the drain holes.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance is an outstanding oil. Best bang for the buck since it last 15k miles based on the average automotive engine.

2UZ could run that oil easily 20k miles and there are tundra or sequoia 4.7 that have reports posted on bobistheoilguy.com

In the middle of the first oil change for me with my 99 tlc. The drain plug had no washer when I removed it, but it looks like the washer is stuck to the pan. I tried a little to pry it off, it wasn't coming off easily, and I became concerned that it was a piece of the oil pan and not the washer. Thoughts? I'm about to head to a parts store for a filter wrench. Should I get a replacement washer and pry off that washer on the pan or is it something that is supposed to be there. I've changed oil many times in other cars and trucks and never had this "issue".

Thoughts?

Cheers

If it wasn't leaking before, I wouldn't change it up. I wouldn't go prying on it either unless your prepared to replace the pan.

A standby I use for filters if i can't get it off or don't have a filter wrench is a leather belt.

Thanks^^^

I kept the gasket on. M1 5w-30, Napa platinum filter. All good. Lubed the chassis, too.

I use Napa gold at my work on most of the equipment that I service at my shop. Another thing that I do is fill the filter up with oil and let the oil seep in all the pores first before install. Surprising how much they oil they absorb.

The washers can stick to the bottom of the pan. Just carefully pry it off with a flat blade screw driver and replace. You're not going to damage the pan(unless your using a hammer)

Another way to get the old filter off without a wrench is to puncture the old filter using screwdriver, then you have something to leverage it.

Putting a thin layer of oil on the filters rubber gasket during install makes removal a snap.

The oil change interval on some European car makers is 20k or 2 years, this is with semi synthetic oil, I always used to change mine every 10k. Diesel used to be 12k or 1 year, which I think is crazy for these engines with turbos. But then again most are built like a disposable compared to a Landcruiser.

Just curious, do people pre-fill their oil filters for the Hundy and is that advantageous? I try my best but the angle of the 100 series filter location makes prefilling difficult to hold the oil in place, easy to make a mess. I don't think repair shops (including the Car Care Nut) do prefilling.

No

I don’t pre-fill but lubricate the rubber seal of the oil filter with new oil so it doesn’t distort/damage the seal itself when I hand-tighten it.
