What oil and filter do you have and how often do you change

To the seasoned 100 series owners before me,

I feel a little daft asking a question about oil changing the Hundy, but here goes… Mind you this is my first 100 and wrenching on it has become my new passion.

So I just completed my 1st oil change. I used Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 and a M1-209a filter. Manual calls for 7.2 qts, but I have only been able to get 6.6 qts back in. I certainly don’t want to overfill and run it overfilled.

Do I add more in a day or so, to get me to 7.2? Or am I in good standing?

Any thoughts advice is always much appreciated.

I think 7.2 is if the engine is dry. I’ve never got that much in after an oil change. Put a few miles in it and check the dipstick, add if needed.

I’m using the massive 301a oil filter. I change oil every 5k and the filter every 10k.

I've never drain and filled a whole 7.2 quarts. Always around 6 1/2 quarts and I use the original Toyota filters.

What? This is confusing to hear--especially with multiple in agreement. I do 7.2 qts w/ filter every time. My oil level goes right back up to the top edge of the acceptable range on the dip stick. I had no idea it was a thing that one couldn't fit more.

Granted I've only had it for 9 months and done about 5 oil changes. I just dump 7.2 qts in and put the tools away ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Me too, just did it in fact. If anything it was a hair low on the dipstick after 7 qts. of Mobil 1 synth and a pint of Marvel Mystery. OEM filter.

I have used Walmart SuperTech 15w40 with SuperTech filter #3614 for years upon years. I have also used 20w50 in my 80 series before the 15w40.

Ironically, a few days ago Walmart didn't have any 3614 filters in stock. I noticed they had four or five different Toyota filters and two of those were for the LX/LC hundy. One was a little longer than the other. I got the long one and was on my way.

I wonder how many more miles over a half a million I could get if I used expensive sythetic oil and expensive filters ??
