Any particular reason you didn't mount those mirror arms in the front bolt holes of the windshield hinge, as per this SOR pic below?
I hauled mine from OR to TX on U-Haul trailer -my tires are 35s...I extended their belts with ratchet belts and wrap the wheels around the tire the way they should be wrapped by trailer guide and No problem at all...You just need to drive slow-55-60 max....I felt very confident all the way...checked it few times but didn't even have to adjust it at all ...Well, I loaded my 40 up and headed to see my kids. I wanted them to drive it and go mud riding before I sent it off to have it buffed and polished at the car body salon. You know in case they rubbed a tree or something. Will post up pictures when we go.
But for now I have to get this off my chest. Perhaps someone more experienced hauling 40s can chime in, but after this trip, I will never use a U-haul auto transport again.
Because I don't own a car hauler YET, I rented a U-haul auto transporter. Well, thought I was renting something I felt safe with hauling my prized possession....not so. U-haul's auto transporter does not meet my standard of safety. At least not a 40 with 33x12.5 tires.
My issues are as follows:
1: I did not realize that the "over the tire strap" would not be long enough to accommodate a 33 inch tire.
2: The trailer is not designed in any way to use chains and binders.
3: Because there are no provisions for using chains I couldn't balance the load on the trailer by centering my 40 on the trailer, so it would pull better.
4: So because of this I had to keep the 40 all the way to the front of the trailer and be ingenious as to how I would use the straps provided on the trailer.
IMHO my solutions were marginal at best.
1: The only way to get the "over the tire strap" to work was to go over the axle instead.

2: Use my chain hoist at the front attached to bumper shackle and then to D ring welded to trailer.

3: Use my chain and binder across the hitch of 40 then back down to D rings on trailer.

The D rings were flimsy little things. I believe they were designed to use as safety chains to keep the car on the trailer and not to be used as an anchor point for chains and binders.

The trailer does not look too tongue heavy in this picture, but believe me it was. It pulled like crap for over 400 miles.
All I could think about was this post from Tucker and Roma #262

Today BJ40 got brand new radiator cap to replace old well used one. I allso got huge bar of metal to make me a front bumper from and put in order for brand new fuel tank.
I ordered Spectra tank from AutopartsWay through Amazon. There were sellers in Amazon that had better price for it, but they didnt offer international shipping.Which tank did you end up ordering?
