You are welcome to come take it! (I once again ponder why I still live here...) No working on the 40 tonight, don't even want to walk the 30' out to the shop! Extra load of wood in the stove this evening to try to build some extra heat for the overnight low....

Brrrr...I thought it was cold here...it's -6c (21f) here right now, forecast to go to about -13c (9f) overnight. Got my wood stove stoked...nice and warm...good luck!!

I thought it was cold here in Vegas last week - I think we bottomed out at 39F - today it was 70F. Brrr!!

Oh, to add technical advise.....Had to give my rig a few extra minutes to warm up when I left the office an hour ago!

It's 10 degrees in Delaware, and I still stopped by my un-heated garage and pulled the alternator out of the 40 tonight. I kid you not, a fingertip froze to the alternator bracket...

Down to -9*F now , headed to -15*F around 03:00 . I bet the old girl would start , too . Still haven't even cleared the drive , got 7" here Monday night , been to windy to even bother with it . I'm staying in the shop...
Sarge

you need an inline block warmer and dual batteries :) started easily

Finished the full steering rebuild.
Issues:
1. steering wheel offset when driving...guess winging it based on wheels in garage does not cut it.
2. Shifting (column shift) for 1st and reverse tough/binding/unreliable. Will be adjusted.
3. Blinker reconnect issue as my tape markers fell off. No idea what goes where :-)
4. I painted everything...stuff may get dinged up upon assembly :-(

Observations:
1. Cap on center arm a bi...
2. Pickle fork a must
3. Pittman arm can be really stuck get good tool (bell puller) up front and remove fender
4. Measure old setup. Remove all connected.
5. Building all on bench on a donor system great and reduced downtime. My donor system had fairly new quality TREs so I used them with new poly boots from Kurt
6. Harborfreight steering wheel puller sucks
7. Trying 90w in box first, no leaks yet
8. Coolerman rocks! Thank you!

Tight steering....worth the effort

Been busy with other things... But managed to pressurise my radiator a few minuteds ago to confirm that I was correct in determining the location of my leak..

I cut some plugs for a couple of short lengths of hose to enable me to pressurise it. Here's a shot of the inlet spigot plugged:

And using the old "dish washing liquid soap trick" .... Voila ...... Bubbles spring up to confirm the joint was never soldered properly:

I'm having a cup to tea now ... then I'll see if I can seal it up.......

Tea's best with Speculaas (Dutch cookies)!! Enjoy!!

I had to be content with kiwi muffins.....:)

No sign of any bubbles from the area now (after resoldering):

And it's buttoned up now with the strap back on getting ready to be reinstalled:

Turned my green 80 white/brown by driving 520Km through blizzards to drop off my "papers" for my visa for Brazil.... What a complicated mess that is!!! Of course the sun came out when I got back!

(FYI, this pic is at the car wash, I didn't leave all that salt on it!)

Also went through a gallon and a half of washer fluid!!!

Something funky going on with my ABS kicking in, (I think on my right front) when it's not slippery.... Gives a wicked jerk to the left, but if I let off then re-apply it's fine.... Perhaps time for new sensors?

Got my repaired radiator back in ... so decided to finish off making a replacement cap for my coolant reservoir..

BTW- I've got a couple of possible Toyota-made caps (that are apparently alternatives to the original .... which is turning to powder from old age) on their way to me but I couldn't wait for them to arrive because I want to get the land cruiser ready for a long trip I'm planning to go on at the end of the week .. or perhaps early next week. (This trip will be far to boring unless I'm behind the wheel of my BJ40.)

New top and bottom radiator hoses (and decent hose-clamps for the same) and a new radiator cap too (because the old original one now has the rubber seals so swelled that it's very difficult to remove and refit).

Edit: I turned up the cap from some nylon rod on the lathe a week or so ago

New BFG 33 10.5 on stock steelies. And painted the W on my 8274.
