I appreciate it. Negotiated with a Saudi used car salesman until 1 am, then took off down a desert road for a 3 hour trip in the newly acquired 40. Was a little nervous but all went well. It's solid as hell. Will be going through the drivetrain and then doing some power steering / disc conversion, throw ac and heater on it, lift, and paint. Been drooling over these things since I was a kid and I'm stoked.

Fitted my new temp sender, oil pressure sender, oil pressure gauge, speedo cable, flushed the radiator and block and adjusted the steering - all done in about 3 hours. Now, my oil pressure reads for the first time, my temp gauge works, my speed doesn't flip around, my steering is better and I'll have to wait n see if the flushing has been productive.

notta lotta, but did replace an incorrect (later model) hood hinge with a correct piece for the 65, thanks to merl out at classic cruisers, also put on a correct toyota factory exhaust system from the manifold back to the tip, brackets included. she's quiet'r than ever, pretty sure that's a good thing

Swapped in a few of these latches...now I need to tackle the leaky radiator and OCD soft top. Thought this was a simple upgrade that I'll appreciate everytime I open and close the door. Now I just have to find a door pull strap in good shape.

I haven't done anything yet this week except to make the folks at fjparts happy. :D

I took a photo this week for the September/October issue of Toyota Trails magazine which is featuring my 10 year restoration project...

Wow, looks beautiful!

No roll bar in '72?

Thanks!

No, the spare is factory grey. I had to see the color next to the Dune Beige 416 before committing to the color on a 4 wheels. The jury is still out... Black steelies or grey???

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

Factory wheels look better in grey (gray? sp?) I don't get the whole black wheel thing...

No More Gear Grinds

I finally adjusted the slave rod free play according to specs and shifting is back to normal and no more gear grinds.
I thank all that helped me resolve this issue. This is the greatest forum!
Thank you all again!!

Refurbished the heater box & blower and added them to the stack of parts in the "finished" pile. The chassis is essentially complete. A handful of peripheral parts left to clean & paint then it will be time to tackle the bodywork. I just hope I can find all of the pieces when it's time to put it all together.

Cleg, that looks SO good buddy. Keep up the great work!

Painted the hood latches black - the workshop messed them about and painted them body colour! I stripped the paint off which left discoloured chrome!

Took out the wiper switch, cleaned up the internal contacts, put it back in and now my wipers turn off whenm I want them to!

Noticed that my new 16 x 8.5 wheels with the bigger offset have smashed into my wheel arches at the back with a little too vigorous rough road driving! When I left the seat and slammed down.... it must've been a little too much for the old girl's springs!

Put the new door panels in, but forgot to get the screws for the door pulls!

Next stop..... back to the body shop to trim the rear!

Towed it home from the Black Hills. During my time there I managed to shear off the studs that hold the passenger side rear axle to the hub (full float axle). I also bent my passenger side steering arm and experienced enough fueling problems to cause me to do a quicky trail install of an electric fuel pump. Now I need to properly address all of these issues.

I've ordered the parts to rebuild the front outers as well as a new steering arm from Cruiser Outfitters. I have also collected what I need to upgrade the stock 8mm studs to 7/16-20 allen head bolts (~11mm, almost a 50% increase in diameter). I'll fix the fueling system last since it actually runs as is and is therefore the lowest priority.

Installed full exhaust, fabbed two new body mounts, finished installing fabbed rear sill, mounted original spare tire rack.
