looks great---more pic's please

Wow x2 a whole lot more pictures

Thanks! She's buried in a one car garage, but will be rolling out soon. Hasn't seen the sun in 5 yrs. Many more photos to come. Not one bolt hasn't been turned, complete restore, OEM parts. Many from around the country compliments of IH8MUD members.

Sandblast, powder-coat, new quarters, paint, rewire, to much money to think about, 960hrs in the last 7 months...

I'm beat.

That was a long road to take. Looks like a new one. Let me ask you, would you do it again. Reasons

Very long road...

Wouldn't do it again like I have done this one. I did this in a very cramped space. Need a full on shop. Every time I sandblasted or painted a part I had to erect a make-shift booth in my back yard. Then color sand and buff out all the dust and imperfections.

I spent many hours rolling around underneath on a creeper wearing a headlamp. It would be so much easier on a lift.

The mountain of parts was so packed away that it was a several hour episode of hide and seek to find what I was after. Shelving space with labeled bins would be fantastic.

It was a huge learning curve on every aspect:

I had a shop machine the parts but I assembled the F motor. Lots of reading, and manual in hand got it done.

I had never welded before... Purchased a mig welder, and took a class. Had never painted with automotive paint. Bought a gun and a compressor, read, watched several videos, and away I went. I had to sand blast and repaint many parts before it came out like I wanted.

So, would I do it again, knowing what I know, and in a suitable space? Yes.

Would I do it again as I did? No.

I have a bazillian dollars in labor in this FJ40.

I stuck to it because it was my college ride in 1988, and holds a lot of great memories:-)

P.S. When I started the project I was just going to give it a valve job, but it grew.

Wow.

There's a great story here.

Nice going, saving one from the dead.

Wow! Hats off to your dedication and great work. I finished up a refresh and putting a metal tech cage in. I did the rattlecan paint and sorta wished I had gone and bought the goods to do what you did. It's something else to see someone with such attention to detail!

Thanks.
The attention to detail part is a sort of a hindrance in many respects. OCD to the extreme.
I'm sure your rattlecan is just fine!

Very nice. I hope to be done with my fj40 by Summer? Question is which year.

Haha! I know what you mean... I can't believe this project took SO long. I'm really excited to be finishing up. She will be a Sunday driver for my wife and I. Picnic at the beach and that sort of thing. Far cry from the college ride that it was in 1988. "Rat Patrol" my buddies called her. How dare they.
