I replaced both leaking steering gear box seals, one on the pittman arm shaft and steering wheel shaft, no more oil leaks. Also replaced the steering coupler rag joint.

How hard was it to do the pitman arm? Getting it off and all?

BTW you took that cyber beating like a trooper last night.

The pitman arm wasn't too bad. Used an impact wrench to remove the nut. Then I used a gear puller to remove the arm from the shaft.
The seal removal was a piece of cake, removed it with a steel pick.

The difficult part was actually removing the gear box from the engine bay as all the openings were too small to pass it thru, but I finally removed it. All of the work was accomplished on the bench.

If your pitman arm seal is the only one leaking you don't need to remove the gear box, just replace the seal in place.

Here's a pic of the old seals:

Got my body off the frame JUST to replace the piece of frame where the muffler rides on. Since I'm fabbing up my own bed and fender wells it was a good call. I can also run all my brake lines, fuel lines, and install a rear mounted tank while it's off. I've decided to take it to blasting in the morning and box up the rear section of the frame when it gets back.

Found my skid plate under the radiator is pretty rusted. Does anyone have a suggestion on this? Should I make my own or does anyone re-pop these?

This is the whole reason for the frame off... STUPID MUFFLER

The lift and crane we have makes this sooo much easier

Here is the radiator skid plate... I take a lot of pics for documentation... I can't believe this is the best one I have.

Chassis is pretty rusty. Is not severe rust just really heavy surface rust. The worst parts are the section of frame and the radiator and left skid plates. Other than that it's pretty solid. Hopefully I can get it powder coated to... If the wife ups my allowance. lol

My trans with the PTO just put on. Got to get a new clutch and all before it goes back in. Wouldn't make much sense to install with a maybe 30+ year old clutch.

Anyways.... That's what I've done this week. Been about 2 weeks since I've even touched it due to an impromptu boat project for my brother. Seems like I have 2 projects now instead of 1. At least that's how my wife sees it.

Rebuilt the voltage regulator according to Claudia-it now works. replaced the s##t front turn signal lights I got from CCOT with the originals I had-the lold lenses were still clear after all these years-just needed serious metal interior cleaning and a good ground(they won't replace them after only 3 yrs.)

good to hear

I drove the truck through emissions on Saturday - passed with flying coors, no tricks :bounce:

then I drove it around town today in 105 degrees

I also affixed the Cruise Moab sticker from this year :D
