Re-bled all my brakes. Something Charlie M @charliemeyer007 said in a previous post got me thinking. I used one of those HF vacuum bleeders (they literally and figuratively suck) and had spongey brakes. CM said you had to use thread sealer to get a good seal so you aren’t sucking air along with the brake fluid. The wife assisted in the pumping and holding and I ran the wrench at the caliper. Worked awesomely. View attachment 4145089
Thanks CM.
Good job and nice rig!
Does your 40 have a rear disc conversion "kit"? If so, from what company?
@Pighead , I saw you have discs on your 55 in the rear too. Kit?
I just installed new drum brake cylinders (Japanese aftermarket, all 4) in the rear of my 76, and bleeding them gave me ( and a trusted mechanic) fits! Yes, I tried all the tips I could find here on Mud too.
I've done it in the past and never had an issue like this time.
I'm going to be shopping for a disc brake conversion kit soon, to put on the shelf for the next time a brake cylinder leaks or can't be adjusted.

I think today I would have gotten a ticket with them in the car seats on the back on the jump seats.
When I bought my rig in 2002, I asked a CHP if child seats on the jump seats were legal, and he said they were, as long as they were OEM. My girls are in their late 20's now.

Those are from @Poser

Brackets and discs (‘70s C-10 truck discs) are from Poser, calipers are mid 80s Monte Carlo and the dual master cylinder is a 1” diameter from Wildwood. I think it was a kit from Man a Fre at one time.

PS 4 wheel disc conversion.

You makes your monthly car payment one way or another. Sure, my last exhaust cost me 200 bucks. That was 20 years ago or so, I forget exactly. This guy did a good job, he's got a good reputation, I opted for the fancy Borla muffler, it's a local one-man shop that I don't mind supporting. I was expecting it to cost more. I don't got a frowny face, I'm all smiles.
Agreed. I don’t think that’s too expensive at all. Consider the materials alone. Everything is expensive. I’m getting the smallest, 40, tri-mix cylinder for stainless welding and that alone costs over $350 for the cylinder and the gas. Then you got wire, pipe, blah blah and you gotta make money on your labor.

Then again, it was probably the easiest exhaust that he's made in a while...

I rebuilt the column shift linkage with new ball / socket joints. It got to the point that every time I shifted to reverse the linkage came apart and I’d have to crawl under it and reattach, very nerve racking in a crowded street, on a trail with a group or like today in a parking lot at a rigs and coffee event. I didn’t think to take any pictures because it was such a 1 banana job. Unbolt the rod at both ends, loosen the locknut, unscrew the ball/socket head and install new. I just did 1 linkage rod at a time.

Procrastination: 12 years……. Not gonna win a ‘body-work’ MVP with it but I’m not as worried bout my feet punching through the floor now! After I got some paint on this, I realized more filler and sanding might be in order but I’m thinking….. Procrastination: another 12 years! 🤣

Drove it around the block, was having issues on initial acceleration, got the first gas from a pump in 30 years.

Advanced my timing from 7° to 12° and did another lean drop tune. Much better off the line and seems to have leaned out the mixture but vacuum may have drop 1psi. Did a little tour of town, visited and gave rides to some of my buddies who helped on the build and finished up with the first beer run!

Probably gonna drop the timing back a bit toward 10° advanced and see what happens.

Got a little closer to the first start up. Diffs, trans and transfer case fluids changed. Fuel tank drained and new diesel added with a new filter. Fresh oil and filter and I snagged the battery out of my 2F 60 series and attempted to start it. Drained the battery in a couple attempts and put my booster on it. It got a stronger start but no cigar.

Looks like I’ll need a battery with more juice.
