Does he live on Gold Hill?
Never been up to his place, but from what I understand Gold Hill isn’t too far. Maybe he’ll be along soon to provide a photo.

Also … pretty rare somebody actually knows where Gold Hill is.

I'm lucky enough to have a friend who grew up local to the area, who let me join his Off Road Subaru club, and does a lot of trail maintenance on Switzerland Trail and took me up to show me some nice scenery while we were out visiting and exploring my favorite state I can't afford to live in, lol.

Holy run on sentence Batman.

Best accelerant is White Rain for spud gun. Grill ignitor for liftoff. Country boy approved.

I think we may be related..😎

Rubber compound and tread design has a big influence on tire road noise more than the width.
Oh, I know. I spent some time with one of the big tire companies (mostly doing boring stuff, but got to do some really cool things too), but had to go through all the fun training from re-treading a tire to watching golf balls get made.

Listening to engineers explain rubber compounds and polymer blends and how they work for different things is interesting to me to a point, then it quickly hits a wall and is absolutely miserable conversation.

The noise difference was surprising because these are the same exact tire (BFG KO2’s), just in a slightly a different size.

My previous Silverado came with Goodyear Wranglers… when I replaced those eventually, I found a web site that also rated tires with a highway noise rating. Some Michelin model had a very low noise rating and son of a gun, they were terrific and lasted over 80k miles. At 70MPH they were like a sedan. As for boring miserable conversation…I fully agree!

I went from a set of KOs to KO2s, and now have Michelin LTX’s on my 100 series. The LTX is so so in wet weather, not great in snow, not an off road tire, but they are very quiet. And they’ll probably dry rot before the tread depth or wear become an issue.

Now that you said LTX…that was them. That pickup was a turnpike cruiser…rarely needed brakes but tires went quickly…The Michelins were the best on that truck for what it was used for

I lovingly call them the “grandpa Michelins” because they are far from a sexy looking tire, but they are the best you can buy for hiway miles.

Makes sense…I am a grandpa now and no longer sexy looking !🤯

They are OEM tires that I got for my F250. Like them a lot, even for moderate off-roading. They also h8 mud!

Spent some time under the cruiser tonight. Got new springs/bushes in and a replacement rear axle bolted down. Nothing else hooked up yet, baby steps! The axle was a long time in the works, rebuilt maybe 8ish years ago for another cruiser and I never even filled it with oil. Fingers crossed it doesn’t leak from every seal when I add fluids.

Maybe I’ll find some time this weekend to finish the rear off before tackling the front.

Went to enjoy some trails… Some bolts holding my brake caliper bracket worked their way out… (disc brake conversion on front axle).

Nothing like removing a hub out on the Dusty trail to make a Sunday complete!
