Bought some new visors because mine got lost... the ones that came in the box were for a fj40. They're also very nice. So I pulled the old pair from my parts truck hosed them off and screwed them on, along with the plastic center piece which my truck never had when I bought it.
They're not perfect but they'll keep the sun out of my eyes while I cruise the lands.

One day I'll cruise to a swap meet with all the stuff I ordered that came in wrong, then subsequently got discontinued...
I'll be a millionaire!

Considered selling it.

I’ve got a pile of parts and no time. Hopefully be back to driving my 200 More after we get the ole
Lady another daily.. not sure if I “need” my 40 project at this point in life.
NOOO... but I understand. I think part of my motivation has been because I am daily driving it. it also helps that its only 25mph around town where I live. Latley I have been daydreaming of my old 1st gen 4runner because I saw one drive by where i live.

I think after I finish the engine swap to a 2f I may start looking for a fj55 trade. I do love the fj40 though and it always has been my dream vehicle.

I think driving mine would be a huge help.

But in reality I have approximately 2 hours a week I could dedicate to working on the 40. And that’s probably going to go away here in about a month with sports seasons starting back.

Also it’s not eating anything, it’s just a pile of parts and money sitting there currently.

PS I still have that part for you in my truck to send 🤦🏻

Yeah thats tuff. With my teaching job at least when I am not gassed from that I can work on it from 3;30 till the evening. I also have weekends off in the school year. I do have a job in the summer that eats up much of my time. I will say after sourcing just a few parts for the engine swap back to toyota, I really hate sbc swaps. the more I look at what a PO did to do the sbc swap the more I am not happy with the quality of work. Looking at the SBC motor mounts on the frame they look like they were stick welded on. some how it all still works though.

I am pretty sure my 40 will be down for a month or so for this swap. I am dreading it. and even then I think there will be parts I am missing or issues that I did not think of when I start putting it back together.

ohh and thanks! yeah thats a part I will eventually need.

Do you know what type/brand of lift you have? I am trying to go back down to closer to stock.
Unfortunately, it doesn't have a brand name.. PO installed it. I just cleaned and re-installed it.

Time but no money.
Money but no time.

Its all about priorities.
There's plenty of time. If you just want to spend it doing other things. That's ok.

Any idiot can throw cash at a problem and fix it, but investing the time in understanding and sympathetically restoring something takes a perverse dedication.

Replace clutch master oil with fresh. Removed and moved back my radiator so my hood will close with the Vintage Air Kit. Got it back together, the finder now line-up. The hood still hits the top of the evaporator coil mounts. Time for a cut-off wheel. Awaiting my historic tags from the Peoples Republic of NJ and she will be on the road without the top which I will restore this winter.

Finally have two horns! Took a bit to track down a Left side Low horn. This horn was pretty corroded inside. I had to take it all apart. Clean off all the oxidation that was keeping the diaphragm from moving and made a new paper gasket to seal it all up. It worked! :) Nice to have a double goofy old horn system now.

How much did you move the radiator support bracket back? I had to modify my support rods as they were pushing the top of the radiator (bracket, radiator and condensor) forward. While the bottom of the bracket was moved back, the top was not making the 4 condenser mounting screws hit the hood.

Ran some fuel through the crawler last night to try and light a fire under my rear to do some pre-trip maintenance before going to San Hollow at the end of the month, but I'll probably just top of the oils torque some bolts and send it the way it is...

Beautiful evening in the hills with one of my neighbors (Jeep guy :( ). There are a couple short trails with some boulders that I would justify as actual rock crawling, so it wasn't a total dirt road joy ride.

pretty sure my fuel pump gave up the ghost after getting the 40 out for a bit today. Fired right up at first though.

Real glad I didn’t trash the tow bar, lot easier than using a chain and someone steering.

Over the last few months, not necessarily this week, but this week the last of it all was completed….. starting with a wash in the driveway and noticing the ammeter not charging, and wanting a set of those Kenda Klever 9.50x33-15 tires. And on & on… basic maintenance.
new alternator
rebuilt the starter
clean & paint the undercarriage
chassis lube
new shocks
new muffler
new motor mounts
rear brakes
rear wheel bearings & seals
brake & clutch fluid flush
tires
powder coated wheels
new hubcaps

Also…. got this nice little jack adapter from @LandCruiserPhil (likely a well known something among Cruiser brethren but I just stumbled across)
