47 year old radiator died on me while cruising down the highway loaded up with kids and camping gear Friday morning. Top tank decided to separate from the core leaving a 4 inch gash and the steam show was epic. Somehow I forgot to pack a spare radiator so we were screwed, well not really. Towed it home and took our Chevy truck camping instead. Definitely not as fun as the FJ40.

Totally agree. My Vintage Air after mkt A/C is the only way to keep it bareable to drive during the summer with the top on... Lizard skinning the underside of the tranny hump also made a big difference in reducing heat radiating into the passenger compartment

What is this sweat you speak of? Man, I was wearing a thick hoodie and an old Army field jacket the last couple of weeks I was driving in the mornings!


Now if I can get it put back together to enjoy it again. The hardtop will be back on!

That looks like a nice product - the heat from my hump is definitely the biggest contributor in summer.
How thick did you put it on?

Brushed on 4 thick coats (although they recommend spraying). It ended up about 1/4” thick. I gave it a final coating of POR topcoat paint (chassis black)
 
Lost oil pressure on the way home from my girlfriends house this morning according to thr gage. Landcruisers don't just drop oil pressure, so I confidently drove it to work and back home then checked the wire after work. Cone to find out it had 12v on it, at which point the connector fell off in my hand. I crimped on a new connector and stabbed it onto the original 50 year old sending unit and now, all of a sudden I have great oil pressure once again...
Buy nice or buy twice.
 
Changed the oil, and somehow started an oil pan leak.

Change the fluid in the front diff and tighten the loose flange bolt, and started a leak up there.

Successes:

Finished install of rear 4+ U-bolt flip kit

Adjusted and bled rear brakes

Replaced all brake fluid

Greased all Zirk’s

Adjusted front passenger wheel bearing

Ordered oil, pan and gasket!
 
Dropped off my 40 this morning at Javier’s in Houston for rear wheel bearings and a fluid flush. That’s pretty much the last maintenance item. I’ll list all the work with a couple photos when it’s done. Here’s a camp out picture from 2020.

Drove my son around town and got some ice cream. Also, decided on the next project…air conditioning haha we both had to take a shower after riding around for an hour
