Check with @red66toy for fuel pump rebuild kits aka Cruiser-Cult.Rehabbed fuel delivery system. Vent / vapor separator had dry rot at hoses; cut those back to fresh rubber and reattached, added a couple gallons fuel and cranked and cranked, no start - short burst of starting fluid ITS ALIVE!
Then sputters to quit, cranked again for a bit; no start, no fuel in carb sight glass . . . Time to swap out the fuel pump and replace with one from the cache of rehabbed accessories.

Still would not keep running- replaced fuel filter, no joy. . .
Took some air to the feed line to backflush it, then gasoline was flowing ! Reattached the fuel filter, cranked the engine and it is a runner again.
Now to find a rebuild kit for the fuel pump
Installed a new side cover gasket on the '78. Turns out that was only half the leak. Looks like I'm gonna need a new oil pan as I got a steady (slow) drip between the pan and the skid plate.
If I get a new one do I need to caulk the living bejeezus out of the gap between the two parts of the pan or will I be t!ts up before it rusts through again?

It’s such a fun truck to drive. Haha I like it more than my 2uz FJ40!
I think a early 45 or a 55 are the only two vehicles I would trade my 40 for. the 55s are cool for sure!
Got it out of the garage for the first time in a while! New parking brake and speedometer cable, cleaned the gauge contacts(they finally all work!!), and new Bilstein 5100 shocks.
Things to address now: 4WD light suddenly is on all the time out of nowhere, speedometer takes a while to get back to 0 after stopping, 1000 little rattling noises.

I got my Bandeirante (with OM314+turbo) a new turbine housing. "Original" was a A/R .63 housing, now it's a A/R .48 housing. The difference is a little bit less extrem then in the pictures. But the turbo spools up earlier and instead of 0.5bar at 2000 the engine now makes around 0.5bar at 1700.
Maximum boost and max EGT I need to figure out, I guess max EGT will be a little bit higher and max boost a little bit less.
And I got him a new battery, 12V 100Ah, but the funny thing was, there in the battery box I found a tiny supercute hydraulic lifter. I have my truck since more then 2 years now, never saw it
It works perfectly, I just need to clean it a little bit and maybe get him a oilchange.
I don't know what to do with him, because I have one off the offroad jacks for the street and at home a proper one too.
PS: yepp, scheduled the brake fluid change already, but it isn't too old.

I’m going for hero status. I think I can get it down to 995 rattles.

Getting closer to driving. The last couple weeks saw an attempt at brake lines, wheel painting, skid plate refresh, fuse box replacement and start of water pump replacement.
Finally got around to installing the CCOT half doors. Not sure I would do it again. Quality is decent but fitment isn’t ideal and some of the holes lining up are so so. I realize they are custom though.
Weatherstripping went on without a hitch but man are they tight to close. Paint job is definitely better than the rest of the vehicle!
Unsure at this point if the hard top will be coming off for the summer. I kinda dig this version.
