OEM black L and LX570 badging on the rear, completing the chrome delete process. Also, took advantage of Harbor Freight’s 1-day, in-store only 40% off all winches coupon to pickup my Xmas present from my family to myself :)

I killed one of these winches by exceeding its 5% duty cycle. AMA.
That's terrible. JUST 5%? or "just 5%"?

I have one for my side by side and haven't used it but one time (without issue). What did you replace your Horror Freight BaDlANdS winch with?

Here's a potential substitute:

Would you agree that maybe there were some extenuating circumstances in the failure scenario?

IIRC the situation, trying to get the job done on a dying battery. Most of us would have needed to do the same and I think other brands may have succumbed too.

The takeaway for me is that it's important to have proper power and battery support for inductive loads, i.e. electric motors. Specifically is that it can be dangerous to electronics when batteries or power supplies sag in voltage. Inductive loads will pull whatever power they need - that is they will pull much more amps to makeup for sagging voltage to do work. Work as in watts = voltage * amps.

It's dangerous to electronics to pull high amps because that's where heat really comes from. Electronics are often sized for amps, rather than voltage. I've killed relays to compressors for the same reason so I'll generally leave the car on when running high power loads.

Making this more concrete, a typical 10k lb winch might pull 400A at 12V, or 4800watts. If the battery is sagging to say 8V, that would require it to pull 600A or 50% more amps. That'll get things toasty and possibly burn out in a hurry.

Brownouts have the same risk to homes appliances which can cause them to burn out.

Another takeaway is to not wait for a worn battery to fully fail. All these electronics and motors in our cars take more wear when the battery is weak, allowing voltage to sag. Starter relays for example really take a beating from weak batteries.

Version 1 of my soft shelf.

I like the idea of the 3rd row shelves but want something that’s easier to remove and less painful to the body parts if I’m sleeping in there. I ordered the handle delete kit from Kaon and used the hardware to attach a couple tie down points. I found some cargo netting on Amazon and had to modify it a bit. It normally has 5 rows of lengthwise webbing but I cut 2 rows off using a redneck hot knife (torch and a 2” putty knife”. The attachment loops are too long so I need to come up with a better solution there.

Overall I think it will work.

If you are asking do I still have PTSD from my starter failing the answer is yes

Winch failed after pulling truck onto the rollback.

Installed Baja LED fogs and Desert Does It front seat mount for the cordless hole puncher.

LC looks great as do the mounts. Desert Does It, makes the mount for the seat, but who makes the one for the cordless hole puncher?

Fortunately Desert Does It makes them for both the LX and for my RAM. Just need that setup with the extra clip too.

Also, love the cordless hole puncher which I will credit you for, but will be using. 👏👌

Removed the superior engineering recovery points from the front and installed low profile e&e rp’s in front and 1 in rear. Removed the useless OEM roof rack and installed the OEM bolts, brackets and cover panels I purchased from Lexus. Used Cerakote Trim to clean up the rubber inserts for the roof channels. Going Slick Top until I figure out if I really want a roof rack and if so what it will be. I do kinda like this look though.

Naked roof looks great. I recently did the same. LX roof rack just makes the truck look even more bulbous and awkward. That blackout job is 🤌

Make sure and top off that AGM with a battery charger on a regular basis. OEM alternator won't provide the ideal charging profile for the AGM. I have the same battery, 2.5 years old and last I checked it had about 60% life remaining.
I'm hopeful the diode hack helps a little bit, since I did it for the AGM battery I just installed on my LX. Of course, I say that as I currently have it on an AGM battery charger to make sure it lasts... :)

Pics? Backstory?

Posted in my build thread but had a starter fail in front of my house, truck was facing wrong way to get up my steep drive so had to dead pull it onto a rollback trailer and get it maneuvered into my garage.

Pull was relatively easy given truck was free wheeling. Two 30 second pulls and it was dead as a door nail. They have a generic Chinese solenoid in them and I tried swapping it out but it was the drive motor that failed.

This is why I run my 8274 on my troopy. Wish I could figure out how to get one to fit in my 200 as well.

Got 4.88 gears in with Eaton front/rear locker. Little over geared for the current 34" setup but will be switching to 37" once I get my other parts installed.
