I've not actually done anything to the 100 this week, but I have set my CC on fire taking advantage of a bunch of black friday deals!

Front bumper, air compressor, the various components for a dual battery install, etc, etc.

Fun times ahead.

What bumper deal? Interesting...

you lost me at "open up the case on the remote"... you mean break apart the 3-button case that holds the battery and appears be glued together? I'm assuming the chip is in the corner indicated by the arrow in the pic with the battery removed. Did the case come apart cleanly, or does this cause irreversible damage the fob?

It is just glued together. My key fob is held together by the outer shell.

Well then, I'll break out the razor knife...

I don't think the transponder chip is removable. I haven't checked, but I can take mine apart this week and post pictures if it is. I would hold off on cutting your key open. If yours works wait, I can take mine apart (it's a spare) and let you know if that part is removable. Taking the internals apart exposes the circuitry and makes everything a little loose inside.

Cruiserparts.net

5% off and free shipping. The cheapest shipping quote I had gotten was $190, so this was a pretty decent savings for me.

The only places that have ARB bumpers in stock are Slee and ARB, neither of which is too terribly close to PA :)

I couldn't see anything on their site for an ARB for a 100. Did you get a combo or Sahara?

Their website isn't the best around.

On the left side column, click on BRANDS WE CARRY, then ARB, then BULLBARS, then back on the left side column can select Deluxe Bars or Sahara Bars.

I got the Sahara.

Ironman Bullbar and Baja Rack flat rack went on today.....OME lift and Metal Tech Sliders still waiting in the garage for another time. Also repainted the grill with a metallic grey and paired the L satin black. Turned out pretty nice.

Big shout out to the guys at Metal Tech. Nice to have a killer shop like MT in the PNW.

Looks good!

I wish I could be more of help, but I have never seen a key/fob in good condition. When I bought my cruiser is the stock key/fob was being held together with a combination of super glue and duct tape (classic). I assumed when I was removing the chip that it was virtually inaccessible due to excessive gluing. If you're saying that yours is glued together, then yes I believe you'll have to crack that bad boy open to get the chip out. I lost some plastic off of mine, but those pieces were attached to caked layers of super glue so there was nothing I could do. The 3 button unit still has it's square shape though, so all is well and it works like charm.

I've been meaning to either debadge mine or paint them black. Pretty sure the chrome grill is going to get painted. The LX's have too much if it up front I think.

^ did you ever determine where your front suspension squawk was coming from?

Swapped diff and xfer fluid for some new valvoline synthetic.

My MPGs have been disappointingly low since removing RTT and Awning. Was lucky to break 14 on a 300 mile hwy trip. Went ahead and swapped original o2 sensors for OEM fresh (thank you Onur)

No data on this yet, but at 155k mi, I'm thinking they were nearing the end of their life.

New tires, just in time for snow

Toyo M-55 255/85R16's...

...33" of super hard tread.

TireDetail.jpg

I got some new tires two days before Thanksgiving and then went and took the LX on a road trip to Idaho and back to Eugene. The tires did splendidly on gravel, frozen two lane, and high speed highway. Pretty smooth and quiet for the tread and hardness.

We got hit here in Eugene with some major snow (for us) and I had the opportunity to try them in the snow today. They worked pretty well with no slipping that I could tell. I will run them through the winter and spring and will then throw a comprehensive review up on the forum.

mudflaps, bug screen and a big day

Another catch-up post for me.
Over the last couple of weeks I added some home made front mud flaps, a bug screen for the radiators, changed my ignition shaft and replaced two perfectly good heater "T's" - all in the name of baselining.

Mudflaps. I couldn't bring myself to pay almost a $100 for front mudflaps - OEM or not, so I went to Napa and bought a 24"x 24" semi mud flap for a whopping $14. I cut it up and made two flaps for the hundy. I also made a pair for the Tacoma. On the Tacoma I had one left on the front and used it as a stencil. I noticed on the original that it had slots to allow the flap to tear away if bound, so I added those to my new ones for both the Tacoma and hundy.

I really like that these DIY flaps can flex so much - which I think is an improvement over the OEM ones because they could break sliding over a rock for e.g. My helper Dude showing the flex:

They also drop down lower than the OEM ones I think - and should be compatible with my sliders...

At HD I bought some charcoal coloured fibreglass insect screen and cut a piece to fit over the radiator assembly. I have seen this done on larger trucks and thought it would be a good idea to protect the radiators and condenser coils from bugs and make them easier to clean. I have an Ultra-gauge and have used it to monitor before and after engine temps - with no noticeable difference. Of course its pretty cool here in AZ at the moment.

I have also been doing some touch up painting to various scratches and what not on the body - glad this hundy is white! I did this to fend off any future rust spots and to clean up some areas. I have been using a small can of rustoleum gloss white and a brush.

As part of baselining I also replaced the heater "T's" which appeared to be "like new" - 01 hundy has 90k miles, so this appears to be more of a milage based item than an age based item....or the PO replaced them. Similarly I replaced my ignition switch shaft before it broke. This was an ordeal only because the first one I got was actually the electric tilt version which is almost identical, except the blade at the end that turns the electrical switch is rotated ~45 degrees!! Once I got the right part, it was a quick change - really not bad as long as the original is not already broken.

Also this 01 hundy finally turned over the big 90k on a quick trip to Tucson for family photo shoot.
90k.JPG

After that we made a camping trip to the So. Cal coast to scout out some good family camping sites for the summer... Hundy was awesome (except I think I may have some CV clicking!?), but we came home early because it was so freakin cold! We checked out Jalama and Refugio beaches/parks.

Next up are (1) to check out the CV's, maybe get some smooth-edged clamps from PFRAN, and (2) install the new Kenwood HU and amp I bought for Christmas. I also have some sliders coming from MT....

I would say they were bad. They split in half. They had 183K on them, lots of hard driving and wheeling.

I can verify. They were both completely broken in half, not even cracked, just broken in two. When driving on the road the t-case shifter would push itself completely right upon acceleration, never had I seen that before
