What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Before I started this project I was running OME 3 inch springs (not sure of model number, there were on it when I bought it). Rancho shocks and steering stabilizer that when I took them off would not move on their own at all. I put on a 3” lift kit from Superior Engineering. Also running 33” Toyo Open Country M/T’s and the stock 16” rims.

I would like to a shock move on its own. lol

Superior are nice.....popular in AU. How many miles on the new superior?
You had no noise prior to Tcase rebuilt and with superior kit?
I have not been able to get it running long enough to take it for alignment yet, which is entirely part of the problem. I also took on a lot at one time to rebuild. I did ARB air lockers front and rear, new DBA brakes all the way around, new short block and head machined, sent injectors out to RC for cleaning and refresh. And a ton more. I have only put 500 miles on it since I bought it total and less than 3 miles in the neighborhood trying to get it running.

Replaced my Optima yellow top 27F battery TWO days before the warranty expired! Parasitic draw killed it as the old lady sat for almost 2 months without driving her . Will install a Noco Genius over the 4th to combat it and show the little lady some love next week.

Hang in there you’ll get it going soon.
You did a lot at once and this is what can happen.
In the end it will be all worth it.

I have one of those Noco chargers and they do a great job of reconditioning a drained battery as well as keeping the battery topped up and always charged.

Did you met up with Norcal guys?
I went in on the Nilsons Garage renegade run with the Central Coast Crew.
I did see Lee on Tuesday night at Buck.
Sorry I didn’t get a chance to meet you.

What are your thoughts on the Toyo RT Pros? How many miles do you have on them?
Love them… but my only modern experience is in last 8-months. Before that, 30+ years ago.

My 80 came with BFG A/T KAO2 (barely used from 2023, in the for sale section). They wouldn’t get me up the harder trails here, so grabbed the Toyo R/T Pros and wow. Things I would slide down I just go right up now. Can’t believe they made that much of a difference.

Highway they are the same noise (not much) as the KO2s and handle great.

I would guess 1000 miles total and about 150 of those off road and 30 on some of the harder trails here. Did great on all but the hardest trail at Beasley Knob which I am afraid of from all I have heard. But all other tough trails there, no problems… and we ended up waiting for some others and it just walked through after. I am not that experienced, so don’t think it was skill. Just an 80 with a 2.5” lift and nice tires.

Since I was not able to tell if the crazy noise I was having was coming from the transfer case I rebuilt or the drive shaft, I was able to borrow a friends spare transfer case to put in to see if I can continue to narrow down the source of the noise. Tonight I was able to get the old t-case out from under the truck. Tomorrow I will get the borrowed t-case in and see if there is any difference in noise when I take it for a spin.

Driveline related. Does your rig have factory lockers? Kinda sounds like a partially engaged diff lock. Or a loose ebrake shoe. Have you tried jacking up the rear of the rig and spin the wheels by hand? TCase in neutral. The wheels will spin in opposite directions.
