What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Started my ownership of a properly baked ex Colorado truck. Picked up from a friend who did the HG and cooling system and then just put 50k on it driving around stock.

I got it two weeks ago, did a deep clean and some small Maintenence. New rear ds, intake boot, used grille and lots of buffing.

It will be the replacement for my 60 while I 12HT swap that.

Similar story. Bought the 80 to drive while I swap in the Cop Motor 2F into my 60. I need to get started on this.

315/75/16's showed up today.
Went with some Evoluxx Rotator R/T's.
My F250 and 200 both have AT4's, but looking to save a little on this build. Not huge on ebay tires, but I've personally ran this brand before. Have them on my 98 Explorer in A/T form. Balanced out great, and no issues in thousands of miles. Hoping for the same this time around.
Sandblasting and painting the factory wheels of course.

Just picked up the ‘97 Collectors from ACC Garage. Was happily being renewed there under their expert care. I feel comfortable out in the middle of nowhere now. There was a LOT done…

  • All rubber and seals replaced (there were some that met their exacting OEM and wear/age standards and didn’t need it).
  • All fluids/filters drained/replaced.
  • New plugs and wires and cap.
  • Knuckles rebuilt.
  • Emergency brake all parts replaced (yay, brake works finally).
  • Rear bump stops one added and one replaced.
  • Worn bushings replaced.
  • Speedometer is no longer off by ~10% (Dakota Digital).
  • 2nd Battery Isolator, fuse block, bypass.
  • Replaced WARN 8k winch with new ARB 12k.
  • Both front seat gears replaced.
  • Fixed exhaust leak.
  • Replaced fuel charcoal canister.
  • Replaced all window runs.

Woot! If you are near Atlanta, love the ACC Garage folks!

Since I was not able to tell if the crazy noise I was having was coming from the transfer case I rebuilt or the drive shaft, I was able to borrow a friends spare transfer case to put in to see if I can continue to narrow down the source of the noise. Tonight I was able to get the old t-case out from under the truck. Tomorrow I will get the borrowed t-case in and see if there is any difference in noise when I take it for a spin.

Truly dedicated on the chase for perfection. 💪😎

Installed @Delta VS 3L radius arms on my friends HDJ81 last night so we could beat the heat in the garage today. 3” lift with 37’s. No more rubbing when the wheels at lock for pavement pounding.

The cable to the hood latch finally gave out and broke on me. I was able to get enough room between the grill and hood to unbolt the latch, remove the plastic cover and get the hood to open.

For a temporary fix I used some bailing wire and secured it to the latch mechanism and ran it along the core support and have a small loop at the end of it. For a piece of mind I did function test it several times and it releases easier then the latch in the LC.

Well I swapped out the transfer case with a friends space t-case and the problem continues. I have essentially narrowed it down to the rear drive shaft. The reason I swapped the t-case to begin with was I was getting the noise happen when I was moving the t-case from high to low range. The noise did go away with the rear shaft removed. I also had a leak around the front output shaft of the t-case I rebuilt with the 3.1:1 low range and part-time conversion. I have tried flipping the rear shaft around to see if the noise went away, but it still persists. I am going to try one more thing today and set the rear shaft 90 degrees from its current configuration to see if that makes a difference. If no changes after that, I will be calling Tom Woods on Monday to get a rear DC shaft on order.

On a not surprising note, swapping a t-case under the truck has been one of my least favorite and most time consuming projects so far at 11 hours worth of work over the last two days.

What lift are you running, height and Tire size?

Before I started this project I was running OME 3 inch springs (not sure of model number, there were on it when I bought it). Rancho shocks and steering stabilizer that when I took them off would not move on their own at all. I put on a 3” lift kit from Superior Engineering. Also running 33” Toyo Open Country M/T’s and the stock 16” rims.
