What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

With the price of gas now pushing $5.00/gal. and the old cruiser getting about 10mpg, I'll probably be leaving her parked for a while.:(
My daily is a diesel VW at 45 mpg but with diesel being so much more expensive than petrol the cruiser is almost a wash at this point. 🤷‍♂️

I haven't even tried the sunroof yet! it's an interesting thought about wear and tear, I would need an eletrical engineer with a lot of knowlege about AC motors to chime in on that.
There are no AC motors in the Land Cruiser.

Just picked up my first 80 this week so mostly just played with it and looked for excuses to drive somewhere/anywhere. I've been wanting an 80 for about 10 years but I just couldn't make it work. Finally things worked out and I finally have one. It runs great and has been refreshed mechanically so I am mostly working on cosmetic and nagging stuff. Ordered up a One Stone armrest and Some solvefunction goodies for it. Lots of little things to work on but it doesn't leak at least I won't get in trouble if I leave it parked in the driveway.

First thing was that it actually fit in the garage and I was not expecting that with 315s, the lift and rook rack.

PO gave me a ton of parts so I swapped out the window molding that was looking pretty bad. Before:

Congrats. Looks great from what we can see. More pics !

I’m afraid that I’ve created a whole new monster after attending the LoneStar Land Cruiser Roundup this weekend…… Got my first taste of “rock crawling” - to the extent that a very lightly modified 80 can do it. I’ll be doing a picture/vid dump thread later.

Another Window Rocket + New OEM Window Runs post. Unreal results. 100% worth it. Also, no more shaky glass. Makes the truck feel new.

Absolutely!

One of the best upgrades out there.

Amazing product.

Added a new switch to the lineup…

I figured out how to take and front axle rebuild and make it take at least a week to finish. Perhaps I am too anal with my cleaning, but I touched each bolt bearing and part, repaint the brake shield, and took my time. I struggled for 2-3 hours getting the drivers side axle and birfield seated in the differential. I tried everything I could think of. I thought that maybe when I had Marlin Crawler rebuild the 3rd member with the 4.88 gears and the ARB air locker I may have ordered the wrong RCV 300M axle set. So I pulled the 3rd member back out and with it on the ground it was effortless to seat the axle. Finally my angel of a wife got under the truck with the 3rd member in the axle but not bolted in we twisted, pushed, jiggled, and shook, and finally it seated. I also had a wheel stud break off so had to fix that, and also installed the new DBA brake rotor and the Aisin locking hub! I have almost everything for the passengers side cleaned and ready, so it should be a much quicker install now that I have rebuild my first knuckle.

Super nice! do you feel any difference in the braking performance now?

I was able to get the rest of my exhaust finished. Last step was to put on a set of MAN A FRE headers. Put on some Heatshield Products header armor. Tedious work wrapping headers, but hopefully pay dividends for reduced heat under the Hood. Only wrapped one half of the header pipes.

Let us know if you feel any performance difference and any lessening of engine compartment heat. One would think that wrap would help tremendously.

Pics of the new calipers? Paint on those makes the brake dust fall off easier, IME. Spiffy looking hubs, BTW.
