What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Repaired gas tank (JB Weld tank weld) and installed new fuel pump. Time will tell how permanent on the repair. Also installed new Toyota shocks front/rear and OME 2861/2862 springs. And ARB front bumper. The bumper was a bitch. Wouldn’t line up with the frame horns. I tried to use a winch strap to get things to line up but was at the limit where I was concerned it was going to break and give me a new face. Took it to local body shop. They said frame horns were fine, had to open up the slots on the bumper a bit. Also had to ream out the mounting holes on the bumper because they were too small for ARB’s own bolts. Pretty lame about the quality control issues. Cost me a couple hundred bucks. If anyone in Houston wants the stock bumper (painted moonglow) it is free to a good home just message me. It is in good shape. I’ll get around to posting in the Texas forum eventually View attachment 4102485View attachment 4102491

So you replaced the radiator with an OEM unit and it failed after 600 miles? Or you replaced the OEM radiator with something different and then that one failed after 600 miles? huh? 🤔
When I swapped the motor, I took out a CSF radiator of unknown age and replaced it with a new OEM from the Toyota dealer. That new Denso started leaking around the bottom crimp after about 500 miles. It happens. The dealer stood behind it and gave me another one which I installed and hope to get more life out of.

Is the top of the OEM radiator plastic?

The OEM radiator is aluminum and the tanks are plastic (top and bottom). Koyo, Denso and TYC make copies that use the same basic design. My old radiator was a CSF all-brass unit, but I chose the aluminum for better cooling. If this one fails, I will go back to a CSF or cough up serious money for an all aluminum rad.

I have over 10 years of service on a CSF radiator with out issues. 😁

To avoid major trimming i consciously searched for he lightest and smallest measured 37s.
My Yokohama MT 315s on stock wheels were 69lbs measures 34.8" 10ply
My new Mickey Legends 37sx12.5x17 are 70lbs and 36.4". 8ply
I gave up rated E 10ply for similar weight. Stopping and exceleration are similar but less noise. Feels (to me) more rotational rather than less resistance maybe its AT instead of MT.
Overall happy with purchase but need more road/highway miles. This tire checked my boxes and no rubbing since its not a true 37s snd I have the delta 3L with 3.25" fronts and 4" rears. I have gained 2" additional clearance from the 37s.

Looks perfect

Brothers from other mothers met for the first time at the beach house. And of course, the 80 series universe must be in balance, so the 91 developed a shudder at low speed and started spitting coolant (I think from transmission cooler lines) when I pulled it out of the garage. First time I had driven it in a few weeks. Had not leaked anything while parked and was fine the whole time i was using it in Houston for the past couple months.). Ironically I was just mentioning to a friend yesterday how that truck has been almost perfect since I baselined it a couple years ago. Didn’t have time to do anything more than pull it back into garage and get some pics. Had to run back to Houston. (And yes I know there is oil everywhere. It is a magic protective coating made of dinosaur blood that keeps the rust away.)

Another Window Rocket + New OEM Window Runs post. Unreal results. 100% worth it. Also, no more shaky glass. Makes the truck feel new.

I installed these too with the same impressive results. The sunroof screams open/shut too. But, it got me thinking; will this newfound speed result in faster wear n tear on these old parts window operator mechanical parts?
