What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (57 Viewers)

Took a trip to Doll House and saw some amazing things - not all of which was the natural scenery. Came across a reminder of why we all drive Toyotas - a burned out Jeep that had spontaneously burst into flames the day before. Also came across a broken down 80 - serves as a good reminder to always inspect your undercarriage before heading into the back country to take on challenging trails. Getting service deep in the back country is expensive and time consuming.

Your stock OEM axles are stronger/better than the Nitro CRAP !!
Hmm. Well I still have my stockers. Buddy at work had these. I couldn’t find much info on them.

From the looks of it, that 80 doesn't seem too well cared for. 😭

I did the hvac button refresh. I wish I dusted before taking the pic.
All buttons were available from amayama.

While in Moab, paid a visit to the Navtec Expedition guys and to check our their 80s and chat for a few minutes. They have 24 (mostly stock) 80s they use to give tours in the Moab area. They've been giving tours in 80s since the early 2000s. Very friendly crew with a passion for 80s.

Who would’ve guessed in 1990’s the soccer mom $60k top of the line Toyotas would end up there. 🤷‍♂️

Yes I am old enough to remember when 80’s were new on the lots. 😐

Cheers

I'm old enough to have bought a 1993 brand new. Still have it.

I was there when my best friend bought one as well, 93 too. 6m1, diff locks, leather. Twice the price of a Jeep at the time.

Cheers

Looks like the park service Jeep. This was taken last April at the doll house, looks like the same accessories.

We were in Doll House 4 weeks ago and saw that Jeep at the Hans Flat station when we picked up our permit. That just about has to be the one that burned. Where was it? Definitely below the Flint Trail by the look of the background.

Yeah, that's the Park Ranger's jeep. It was at Doll House, just a couple hundred yards from where the picture above of my truck was taken. When we were one the way in, we met the Rangers coming out after picking up the stranded Ranger and they told us about it. They said they didn't know for sure why it caught fire, but thought it might have started with a transmission fluid leak.

Getting that out is going to be fun. It will have to come out through Hite. I don't see them hauling it up Flint.
