Final post for today. Finally wired up my Baja Designs LP9s and the Cruiser Cult Adaptive Light Brackets @ red66toy. It has been nice being able to finally work on this rig as it has been sitting for the last 4 years. Getting real close to being able to pull her out of the garage.

I added the Delta VS ( @Delta VS ) tailgate storage lid. No pics of the install but, wanted to share some installation tips. First, securing the hardware from inside the tailgate is difficult unless you use some double sided tape. I used 3M VHB tape to hold the nuts in place while I secured the gate. Made the job VERY easy, especially noting my large hands.

The second part that should have been difficult was removing the internal ribs on my 97. The instructions indicated to use a burr grinder. I found using a cutoff wheel on the grinder much easier. You can see their instructions here: https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/5bdb89e36b268c03000afe51/64877cf16d3d53e36873877a_12577_80 TAILGATE STORAGE_INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS V1.0A.pdf

Love the product, just need to add sound deadener and a carpet kit.

Looks great. I love my Delta tailgate storage too. Has anyone added carpet to the outside? I've been considering adding carpet to the top side but maybe securing it with something other than glue. Been brainstorming a clean way to add some magnetic spots to the aluminum and to the carpet to keep it in place but to allow it to be removed if needed.
@Delta VS have you given any thought to anything like this? Exterior carpet kit?

I installed the Huracan (sp) a while back and it had a thin black outdoor carpet that came with it and it has held up really well. The previous post said he had trouble holding the nuts while installing but in my install it was super easy.

I think the carpet may get snagged or hung up on items when pulling it out of the back. I am thinking about Rhino Lining it. If anyone else has any good suggestions, I am all ears!

Continuing the series from the last few weekends - another dirt trip northeast of Phoenix, in the Four Peaks area.
The Saguaro cacti are pretty much vertical. The truck - not always.

Undulating decomposed granite, with some rocks sticking out. Easier to drive than to walk.

The Four Peaks mountain range is a few valleys over, but every now and then you'll get a peek...

There are two spots where I've locked the rear so as to prevent tire spin. Here's Claudia in the LX approaching one of them.

Looks so nice there..I bet it's super quiet. Good idea locking when you need to so it doesn't tear up the trails more than necessary. I see so many "4-wheel" drive vehicles leaving it in 2 wheel just to see if they can do it and it just kills the trails.

We call this our 'Christmas Place' since we typically visit here at Christmas time. Downtown Phoenix is straight ahead between the two mountain ranges, last range on the horizon I believe is the Sierra Estrella; South Mountain is hidden by the haze & smog. I've walked the trail a bit higher up, and it gets narrow with some off camber spots; probably drivable but the view doesn't get any better up there.

Difficult to hide two white 80-series trucks in the desert...

IMG_4192.jpg

Claudia at the spot where one can let the soul dangle for a bit... Somewhat miraculously, this spot didn't burn in the big Bush Fire of 2020. The fire got close, but the road (including the spot where the trucks were parked) essentially acted as a fire break.

Last - air-up just at Highway 87. Both trucks have Puma air compressors (of relatively similar vintage) installed, but apparently Lexus electrons are better than Toyota electrons :). True, I have a tendency to go with lower tire pressure (I had the 80 at 12 psi) than Claudia in the LX (15-16psi), but the LX (stock alternator) fills the tires consistently quicker than the 80 (with the Sequoia alternator). Both truck have the hand throttle so you can set revs higher than idle. Air setups are home-brew style, with lines and brass hardware from Home Depot (and Napa for the air chucks).

It would be really quiet if not for the folks practicing their gunnery in the desert... there were several quick sequences of 18 shots, and plenty other muzzle reports. Those folks are down closer to Four Peaks Road, but sound travels/carries uphill.

the title was "probably" not in the console with the key. But let's say for argument's sake it was. And let's go further and say the key was in the ignition with the doors locked and someone that is NOT the owner took it. Does that make it any less a stolen car?
Let's say the doors to your house and or garage are unlocked, does that give anyone the right to come in and take what they want?

When your rig gets stolen let's see how funny it feels regardless if the "story is just off" or not. LOL

Depending on state, it does

Washington has unauthorized use and theft of a motor vehicle depending on circumstances

Not sure but you might have the statute and the punishment or lack thereof (by liberal judges) confused? Don't steal a steam propelled vehicle!! 😁😜

RCW 9A.56.070

Taking motor vehicle without permission in the first degree.

(1) A person is guilty of taking a motor vehicle without permission in the first degree if he or she, without the permission of the owner or person entitled to possession, intentionally takes or drives away an automobile or motor vehicle, whether propelled by steam, electricity, or internal combustion engine, that is the property of another
(2) Taking a motor vehicle without permission in the first degree is a class B felony.

... and with this preliminary installation of a 20W GMRS radio in Claudia's LX, I wish everyone a Happy New Year!

IMG_4206.jpg

As for the radio - we'll see whether this is a workable solution. BTech GMRS 20; controls/screen are on the mic. Audio can be piped into the truck's audio system the old-fashioned way - via a cassette adapter :hillbilly:. Mount is velcro for now; I think I can fabricate a custom mounting plate like in the 80. Antenna is a Nagoya UT-72 with a magnetic base, for the roof. Haven't been able to make up my mind for a more permanent antenna solution.

I don't have anything confused.

Rcw 9a.56.065
Theft of a motor vehicle
Class b felony

Rcw 9a.56.075
Unauthorized use in the second degree
Class C felony

Rcw 9a.56.070
Unauthorized use in the first degree
Class b felony

ORS 164.135
Unauthorized use of a vehicle
Class C felony

ORS 819.300
Possession of a stolen vehicle
Class C felony

Maybe you and the original thief can share a cell, that would be fun

Are they both mounted in the same place with the same gauge wire?

I love my puma

Nothing much. Pulled her out to access the ladders, chainsaw, polesaw, etc, for garden duty. She’s a sexy bitch…

Yes, same location, Tools R Us tire carrier w/ compressor rack, driver’s side. Wire is different, 80 was 6-gauge with crimped connections, LX IIRC was 4-gauge, with crimped & soldered connections. Don’t hear a change in pitch if I rev the engine in either truck, so I’m not sure the compressor is short on voltage.

Puma is a great compressor. The oldest in our fleet is in my K5, and went in use ~ 17 years ago. Initially powered by 10-ga landscape wire :hillbilly: . I’ve since switched to cutting up car jumper cables for this purpose. I’ve used CO2 to re-inflate tires before, liked the speed, didn’t like the logistics of CO2 refills, Tools/Kevin pointed out the Puma, and I never regretted that choice.

But the thing about Lexus electrons being superior comes from much earlier, many years ago. We’re northwest of Phoenix, ready to hit our trail, find an F150 with a dead battery a lot of miles from blacktop. Kevin (LX) and I (K5) alternately charged the F150 battery while nursing the truck back to the main road. Wouldn’t you know it, the darn Ford would go farther with an LX charge than with a K5 charge…:hmm: :flipoff2: :hillbilly:
