I priced one at my Toyota dealer a while back just in case. It was around $380. I wasn't sure if that was the culprit so didn't order one. It sounds like 'm gonna have to bite the bullet on it if I want to have cruise.
Exactly what was happening on mine. It was a bad speed sensor. Toyota doesn't make them anymore so I found a thread on here where a guy bought a replacement from an Australian company.

What was culprit? I've got to deep dive into my cruise control to see why it's not engaging. The light comes on, but doesn't set the speed.

If the vehicle listed in sogafarm's sig line is the one he is trying to fix this part is not applicable to his vehicle. 1992 was the last year for that in-line sensor.

True. The newer electrical only types are still available.

Was last weekend, but I swapped the engine.

The speed sensor for 93-up cruise control is built into the speedometer head. Unfortunately the 1994 speedometer head is discontinued. Hopefully it's something else in his case.

Driving around Conecuh National Forest in south Alabama and met a retired couple from Vermont who are traveling across the SE US in a 1993 RHD FZJ80 imported from Japan.

Installed my Sparco seat.

@Dirt Ferguson

Man, what can I say...I've waited quite enough for this bracket so when it came in, I left work early to start my install
:rofl:

I could've made one at work, but I hate the thought of how inconvenient it'd be to bolt and unbolt my seat several times just to fab something up. Make sure to get yourself some hardware as it's not included; M8 x 1.25 and 16mm long.

Did you have to modify the switch panel in any way to mount a Ram ball into the rocker switch blanks?

Trying to figure out if servo motor is dead because of no front heat after flushing heater core. Should this white plug be connected somewhere?
