Hope you don't have to get a new shovel!! I have yet to see an 80 laid out with the extended cab. You have all sorts of interesting things going on with that cruiser.. or is a Tacoma with a SAS conversion?🤔

Replaced the starter, no more intermittent or delayed starts or need to tap on the old one with a mallet! Fires right up now. Also idles lower than it did before (around 600-700 in park, 500-600 in gear). I wasn't expecting that, but it's good since I thought the rig idled a little too fast previously.

Replaced the original (I am assuming...certainly looked 27 years old, lol!) 1.4kW with a Denso reman 2.0kW. $134 from Amzn site. More than some sources, but free shipping made up for it. Plus knowing I'd get zero return hassles, if there were any issues.

As other posts have said, definitely an easier job if you remove the front left wheel and also either remove or at least unbolt and move aside the transmission dipstick shaft. You could probably do the job without doing either of these things, but I imagine you'd get pretty frustrated trying to get to the bolts and connections.

Speaking of bolts, what should have been a <1 hour job turned in to almost 3 all because of the top bolt. It was in there tight, and I had trouble getting enough leverage to break it loose with standard length socket wrenches (all I have). What I ended up having to do is go in from the top with an extension on the socket to reach the bolt and have a little room in the open area of the engine compartment to get some leverage and range of motion. I used a step stool and made sure I did not lean on the truck, which was kind of tough, but with it being up on a jack stand with the wheel off, I did not want to take any chances. With the exception of that troublesome bolt, it's about as simple a job as changing the oil. Two wires, two bolts.

If I could go back and do it again, I would have removed the tranny dipstick shaft AND broken loose that top bolt before lifting the truck and removing the wheel.

I'll also be investing in a long torque wrench. :)

What was supposed to be my second weekend repair ending up being an exercise in futility, as I had the wrong part. Replacing the front left power window motor. Turns out I ordered the motor for the rear left by mistake, and it's the opposite configuration. DOH! But hey, I now have even more experience with completely removing the windows and regulator assemblies. I ordered the correct part and will likely knock it out this week. Kept the other part, as I know it's only a matter of time before it will be needed.

I've only used the shovel to unstick a jeep, a ford and a chevy....lol

While the steering box is out, thought I would close the door on my mouse vacancy sign on the firewall and pull the 10yo paper towel filling the hole for the steering shaft and fix it the right way... Way easy with the steering box out and disconnected. Lubed her up with the 5 packs of grease I got with the 30mm sway bar kits. Lets hope it dosnt eat away the rubber....

Was a little worried if I went with a body lift but there is some room to adjust the mount on this thing. No one has ever mentioned this. Didn't measure but think there is up to a good 1/2" of adjustment that can be made up and down.

Looks like a great time! Love the trash bag...pack it in/pack it out, only way to go. We Cruiser owners have to take good care of the wilds we love as a way to make up for all the extra fossil fuels we burn, lol!

Crazy, missiles flying in and your working on your cruiser!!! I cant imagine how that will go here when it happens...

Did you freak out as much as I did when you had to cut holes in the seat to attach the arm rest?
I was lucky that I picked up my seats direct from the American distributor and he walked me through the process and we talked shop for a hour he is a great guy. His name was Toby you can order direct from him out of Portland Oregon.
