I don't understand the infatuation with the 70 series? It's based off the hilux and is small. Yes it's utilitarian.

as i get more and more into over landing, i am reading about more folks who say the 70 series is a great utilitarian vehicle, but when loaded heavy and on long bush tracks, they just are not quite what the larger cruiser is. That's just what i have read.
i have no experience with them. I always thought everyone loved them just because we can't get them.

Whoever told you it's Hilux based is completely wrong. A troopy is bigger than an 80-Series and just as heavy duty (heavier duty really, with a leaf sprung rear axle).
They also come in many different sizes and configurations (including V8 turbo diesel powered).

Yep the 70 has a bigger front ring and pinion than an 80 but a hideous dash layout... Very tough truck!
I think the new ones with the coil sprung front end use the 8" HP, but that's a recent change.

not that new .. we are seen front 8" HP in 70 since 98 or so ..
New rear brakes! Centric coated rotors, Toyota reman calipers, green stuff 6000 pads, stops even better!
So is it all set now with the new brakes? Better than last time?
Oh yes, stops on a dime now! I'm loving how it brakes, and the rear pads aren't even broken in yet
