Went armed hiking with the missus. Fresh Elk sign everywhere but they were incredibly ilusive. I don’t mind tho. Got to do some fun wheeling... and finally got to use my winch on a trail 😄

I have that tavern on my list of places to visit when i finally get out that way. Ideally I'd like to stop there and then make my way up W Camino Cielo for some camping with an ocean view.

winch AND maxtraxx? did you need them or just better safe than sorry? how big is the winch?

Honestly, on this trail I got TRULY STUCK twice. 1st in that little puddle. The snow-covered ice suddenly exploded, dropping us into deep mud. PS wheels were churning up mud, while DS wheels were spinning helplessly on the snow and ice, and some vital bits were "high centered" on the ice ledge in between. Definitely needed the winch on that one. 2nd time was climbing a fairly steep and badly rutted hill. Side-by-side hunter traffic had really packed down the snow so it was icy. Made it to within 10 feet of the top using just the recovery boards, but ground had some rocks on DS, and I had broken the end off one recovery board already, (knockoff brand NOT Maxtraxx) so I decided to use the winch for good measure. It was good clean fun and a great opportunity to give the kids a real-life hands-on lesson in recovery :)

I've had that winch more than 4 years and only ever used it in the yard at home when the wife wanted small trees pulled out. Glad it worked. It's just a cheap Harbor Freight Badlands 9,000lb, but all I could afford back then...

@RFB on the inner axle seals -- I used marlin's inner seals years ago to have them leak prematurely. Went back to stock OEM and never had issues. not sure on the ring to use, I would assume whatever keeps it tighter
I had the same experience with the Marlin seals. Been running OEMs for the past year or so without issue.

I did a lot this past weekend. The biggest thing I did was wet sand my hood down to the primer and repaint and clear it. it's not the best job in the world and I might redo it later on, but it is miles better than what it looked like. last photo is before. the paint was soo oxidized you could see the primer in a few spots anyway. the only thing I need to do now is sand with like 1500 - 2000 grit and polish. I also need to adjust the panel gaps on the hood.

Inexpensive is not really the same as cheap. ;-)
Then new HF winches are very good and for the amount people actually use a winch you spent your money wisely.

Finished the repainting of my hood project i started a couple of weeks ago. Taking a cue from mud member @ZeGerman, i decided to take the rattle can approach. The rest of the paint on the truck is in really good shape with no clear coat loss, but six years ago, the clear coat started to go on the hood, and i blacked out the center panel to remedy that. I liked the blacked out center panel, but over the years the clear coat on the sides started to go and the dupli color spray bedliner did not age well. On the sides i used spray paint from Automotive Touchup and the spray max 2k clear coat. The mixed 6m1 in the rattle can matched perfect and the Srpay Max 2k clear is tough as nails. For the center panel i was able to sand off the old bedlliner and i used black monstaliner this time. Four years ago i used the medium quartz grey monstaliner on my roof and it has held up exceptionally well and have been impressed by the product. So after LOTS of wet sanding i am super pleased with the end result. Thanks @ZeGerman for answering the questions i had.

Birfday! The green 80’s inner axle seals were leaking, the joys of working on a rust free truck, never have I had one come apart and go back together so easily. The last one I did was on my red 62, that fought me every step of the way.View attachment 2125609

You must not be married. It's always best to make good use all the stuff you've bought whenever the wife is around.
I am not, well played. lolol

Me and @AKGlobal hit Bulldog Canyon, AZ. He's new to LC's and is planning on a full blown S. America trip soon. He promises to keep us posted.

No traffic, big views of Four Peaks and north side of Superstition Mountains...and my ol cowboy hat.

Installed a Nolathane / Whiteline swaybar from @cowboyjack this past weekend. So far a great improvement. Feels like I'll be able to get away with a softer rear spring now that the body roll is being handled better with the sway bar.

Took Petunia out for second season elk hunting near Kremmling. Great time to try out her new shoes in the snow :)

Kremmlimg, CO I assume?

I lived in Bond for a couple winters and while I worked as a mushing guide in Wolcott. Beautiful and underrated country for sure! Our nights out we're often spent at the Mexican joint in Kremmling (can't remember the name to save my life). Good food and margs though! Spent a lot of time on Trough Rd.

Installed the Slee Headlight Wiring Harness Upgrade tonight, along with Sylvania SilverStar Ultra bulbs in both high and low positions. Major difference in light output. I would say this is an essential upgrade. Great price and great service from Slee.
