New distributor due to a serious leak. Oil change. Coolant drain and flush. Replaced heater control valve, hoses, and the PHH with a bypass. Left the tube cause I’d had enough.

Sometimes it is a Wheeling machine, sometimes a bedroom, sometimes it hauls home supplies, and on days like today it hauls me and kids to the beach.

And oh yeah, I replaced that stupid coolant line that goes to the TB.

added in and secured the JL subwoofer on a LCP Puma bracket.... wanted the ability to remove it when taking the dogs on trips if needed.... sounds great and the Kenwood 5 channel has plenty of power for it ( fit it under the driver' side seat)

also getting used to the STI scoop and vents..... it's almost gone in my visual "what's different".....u

nder hood temps are down by 18-20 degrees, so very happy with that.... will be taking it to marble falls next weekend to see how it runs off-road and get it dusty at least...

Not 80, nor tech related: I’ve got to admit, I’ve been a bit of a hater of the Prado/GX (90/120/150) line for the past few years. I have a few friends in AU that LOVE them, but as a 60, 80, & 100 owner, just wasn’t having it.

Just did 250 miles off-road with about a dozen river fords in Iceland with this diesel J150 and it performed flawlessly and comfortably. The diesel was incredible and only used a half tank for the trip. Oh, and the wife loves it as well so that’s big 😁.

About to do another 300 miles can’t wait.

To make up for that nonsense...

80 & tech related: Engine is out and being rebuilt for our eagerly anticipated @NLXTACY turbo 😁x💯

New shoes for an upcoming trip.

OK.
Winch on the truck and operational. Cable re-spooled poorly.
Second JBL Basspro SL from Fry's is also DOA. What kind of second hand crap are they selling?

Oh, @dcguillory That's a good wife you've found then! Also, I feel like I already own more tools than I should (heresy I know), but It seems like the cruiser always wants one special thing or another.

Drained the oil, removed the oil filter, then replaced the original fuel filter with another OEM filter. While i had the oil filter out of the way i swapped the alternator brush out while still in the truck. I'll finish the oil change tomorrow.

Pretty cool to see the fuel filter is identical after at least 23 years of production.

I'd say it was time after 270k miles!

Whew, a bunch of nice rides...
So...what is/does the smaller vacuum line coming off the purge line from the canister do? This weekend, I found it connected to a hose clamp tab instead of an actual vacuum port.

You really need to read the FSM - Engine section where all the SFI systems are documented. There is a wealth of information in those pages.

Replaced the lines to the charcoal canister. Those suckers had petrified and broke apart as I was removing them. Also began researching what is needed for a 2UZFE swap.....

here's that - LCP w/ smaller JL sub..... still working to sort out best securing plan..... working to add some tie downs to the base that also can be used for other purposes...likely shovel, and AR.....but that still keep the main floor of the rear area open.

It looks shockingly empty!
School is back in session. I went camping, had the entire campground to myself. No one anywhere. It was sublime.

To my own amazement I actually took the old girl to some legit off-roading in the Sierras. Checked out a lake, crawled over some legit obstacles and even found some snow at 9000ft to have lunch on.

My coworker who has a really nicely built Jeep(Dana 60 with 38s) was very impressed with the 80, kept up with no issues except for one section where 37 would been helpful. I didn’t want to drag my diff over multiple rocks.
Where was that? And i want my FJ55 side vents back.

(1) picked up a bale of hay for the horses

IMG_0987.jpg

(2) modified the dash to get a better fit for the ScanGauge (dry fit is in the photo - still working on routing a bezel)
IMG_0989.jpg

(3) removed the center console and dash to relocate the USB cord to the stereo. Does anyone know what circuit the extra connectors go to? My finger is on the one that goes to PWR / 2ND switch

Good surf?

Cheers
Surf was a bit small in that spot. Water is cold in all seasons along that section of coast; this relatedly translates to weather that is typically mellow there in summer even when it is quite hot most everywhere else in Baja except the taller mountains. That stretch of coast makes for a good convoy overland trip if one is prepared.

Cheers

How about two weeks? I took our '92 from this:

To this:

-Baselined all fluids, filled birf's
-New 33X12.50R15 Toyo AT2's
-Used medium lift off my other cruiser, which got an upgrade (work was done a year ago, not this weekend.)
-Straightened out some damaged panels, supports, bumper, etc.
-New VIP Motoz headlights. Required after it rolled down a hill and smashed the side of my shed in.
-Deflared, filled holes with Quiksteel (I don't weld)
-Removed broken roof rack, same process as deflaring. Nutserts were spinning so it was a pain.
-Painted flares and roof holes with temporary solution to figure out the color scheme we like. Will end up replacing hardware store spray paint with Monstaliner when it's all settled.
-Replaced all hood and liftgate struts
-Fixed janky wiring from previous owner
-Replaced ignition switch, keyed to match the doors
-Detailed inside and new O'Reilly seat covers
-Brand new yank strap and D-Rings
-Inspected all mechanicals and determined they are good, as far as I can tell.

Still needs an exhaust repair at the O2 sensor bung. And a stereo and roof rack. And a new AC compressor. Everything else is gravy.

We took it up in the hills to test the new tires and performance. I got it teeter-tottering with only 2 wheels on the ground, put it in Low, and it crawled right up the burm. I didn't think open diff trucks were supposed to be able to do that! Super happy with the changes. We polished the turd a little, now my son has something he can drive at college and do what college kids do to their cars.

I bought it 2 years ago for $2,000. We've put about $600 plus new tires into it, and I think as it is it's better than fine for what it's used for.

The full album is here:

Using Land Rover vents? Look good. I have some vents I need to install but they are fairly long and I might go for something shorter.
