Was out working on Wednesday, nothing exciting, collecting data for a signing plan, not challenging wheeling. What was cool, got rained on pretty good and the desert is really nice when wet!

Some in the group had never seen the start of a flash flood. So, did the park in the empty wash, wait a bit, here comes the little wall of water, now we are fording, thing. If you have never seen it, pretty cool!

Is that the Montana Mountain Loop Run?

Been a busy weekend so far... And I still have tomorrow off :).

  1. New shoes - Toyo Open Country AT2 285/75 R16's (local tire shop matched Amazon price so that saved me $50/tire)
  2. Tightened front wheel bearings to 25ft/lb inner nut, 47 ft/lb outer nut
  3. Topped off knuckles with moly grease
  4. Replaced all bushings in front control arms and panhard with OEM
  5. Cleaned front axle breather fitting
  6. Replaced rear end caps on running boards
  7. Added rechargeable motion sensing LED light bar to flip up window

Replaced control arm bushings. HF 20 ton press wasn't cutting it (safely) and so I pushed out the rubber with the press, used a sawzall to notch a section of the bushing sleeve, and then chiseled out the notch section. The old bushings practically fall out at that point.

Running board end cap part numbers (because so many of us are trying to save our running boards :D)

Rechargeable light bar for LCP window. It came with internal mounting magnets that weren't worth crap, but I epoxied several neodymium magnets to the back and it holds tight to the adhesive metallic strip that came with the light.

The motion sensor works great! Open the side window or the rear hatch and the light comes on and stays lit as long as you are present. Close the window/hatch and 20 seconds later the light goes off. Motion sensor does not activate through glass, so walking around the vehicle won't set it off.

This is the light I used: https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable...538961636&sr=8-3&keywords=78+led+closet+light

Finally pulled mine in to fix that pesky exhaust leak. Only broke 3 of the studs ugh. Pulled the manifolds to make it easier to extract and got 2 of them to come out with the torch and vice grips. The other one I broke 4 drill bits on, 2 down inside it. Finally got it drilled through and tapped clean but now the hole is too big so I have a heli coil coming for it tomorrow.

While on the lift I also noticed this:

Thankfully caught it before it actually broke off. For now I just ground it down and welded a bead in there. May try to trust it somehow later.

How do you find ethanol free gas? App?

Any favorite gas stations in the pnw?

www.pure-gas.org

This is the one I have used a lot when traveling. I have an old Studebaker that does NOT like ethanol, to the point that I will drive 30 miles out of my way to get non-ethanol.

installed new Ron Davis radiator, new WP, belts and hoses, smog pump delete, new O2 sensors, and also installed OEM hand throttle.

do you know if that same radiator will fit the 3FE in my 89 FJ62?

i know the inlet and outlet diameter is the same, but i am not sure if the mounting flanges are the same, possibly no, I will contact RD, they make direct replacement units for all applications.

Finished up the rear brakes on the LX yesterday. New calipers and pads on both sides. Does that mandate new rotors as well?

Still have the maddening squeak when turning left at slow speeds. The search for silence continues.

Spent almost an hour getting a now 7ft tall truck into a 7ft tall garage door.

Step 1 - remove the lower handle on the door for clearance.

Air down to 5-6lbs

Step 3 - Add ballast to combat stinkbug

Step 4 - Ease into the garage ever so slowly

Step 5 - Beer, cause that was more work than it should have been

Haha, I had to remove the wood trim on my garage entrance and change the limit on the door so it pulled all the way up for me to make it in.
