i haven't done it yet but have you guys thought about aux electric fans for high temps sitting in traffic?

valid question .. done plenty, search for good info about it here in the forum ..

After 5 different attempts with different weights of oil in the fan clutch, I ended up with a blend of 7 parts 30K CST and one part 10K CST in my blue fan clutch to give me the best result. Temps have dropped from 197-205* to a fairly solid 187-192* which I like better. Just don't like getting into the 200's under normal circumstances.
I don't remember exactly what I did, but if the math for mixing that stuff is linear I think it was about 12500. It's been a couple of years but I haven't seen anything over 205 or something.

Did a solo fishing mission this past weekend and combined it with a shakedown of my new dual battery system, ahead of a two-weeker through Wyoming at mid-month. I was hesitant to head into the Colorado mountains on Labor Day weekend given the vast numbers of Texans with their fleets of ATVs and RV trailers, but once again, I learned that if you just go the difficult, out-of-the-way route, it's possible to find real solitude out here. Found two A+ campsites, drove a couple hundred miles on dirt, caught a bunch of fish, didn't have to speak to another person for four days straight, and everything in the Cruiser works! In a fit of maturity, I even resisted the urge to stop fishing and moon the passing train's passengers, too. I must be growing up / getting old.

Not growing up/getting old...... just flipping lazy! Get up, and drop them drawers!! Lol

My first post. My father in law gave me his 80 that he bought new back in 1994. My wife and I drove it from the top of Washington down to So Cal.

Found out about the uphill temp spikes the hard way that some people report driving outside of Portland. My wife wasnt pleased the first day to say the least.

But we made it home. Love the car and look forward the new project.

Welding up LOTS of holes in my truck. I did the front flare holes a while ago and finally got the motivation and time to do the last 44 holes. Each one gets sanded, cleaned, welded with a heat sink on the back, sanded flush (without heating it up to much), sandblasted, cleaned, DA'd, cleaned twice, epoxy primed and then it is waterproof and protected until the next session where I'll blend the repairs into the existing paint. The backs of the welds get cleaned and either body waxed or seam sealed.

I love how these trucks look with out all the factory junk hanging off them...less things for mother nature to grab and I crawl through the woods too!

I agree with that. The flares look pretty good from certain angles, other angles they just look odd to me. Without them the truck looks more like a natural progression from 60 series to 80 series.

I had no desire to ride out the storm. So I left on Wednesday and headed to the mountains. Glad I did because it looks like my house will be in the middle of the category four hurricane.

Both of my Japanese girls are enjoying it though.

I know you can spot my dog unlike the other guy’s wife. But what kind of dog is it?

I went through this pain a few weeks back. I tried 10K 15K and 20K in my black hub before finally buying a new blue hub and putting 30K in it. I honestly can say I don't see any major differences between the weights I tried. Freeway temps are steady around 190f at 70mph but will climb to 200ish as soon as I am in traffic. Last weekend I flushed the cooling system and replaced the hoses and this also made little or no difference. My guess is that with Ambient temperatures of 90+ this is as good as I can expect.
That's as good as it's going to get with oil weight only. Follow @landtank's original mod thread with the clutch tuning and weight. I never see 200 sitting in traffic anymore. Tuning is the key.

Do the fan clutch tuning and oil then add @LandCruiserPhil's fan kit. Don't need anything else.
