All this talk of loaded weight is convincing me to go with the aluminum block vortec vs iron. 80# saved in the front of the rig (vs same swap in iron)

Mine is probably a good bit lighter than others, with no RTT, second or third rows, less spare parts, and generally light/minimal camping equipment needs.. but especially having already rolled one of these I'm pretty convinced keeping it as light as possible is a good idea. Same thing for low, really.

Leaving for Gold Lake last Friday we came in at 7300# with empty gas cans. I'm waiting on 864s but they're on back order still. Truck worked a little harder heading up 80. Temp got as high as 206 which isnt too bad. Drove great all weekend tho. Wheeling and all.

Also tracked down my rear locker breather. Wasn't in the DS rear quarter panel like I've seen others. Found it sticking out, above the upper coil bucket. Not really the best place for a breather, right? Must be a early 93 special.

Got my Slee rear bumper dialed too and personal plates finally came in. Took the family, including 9 week old, out to Gold Lake to camp with a few buddies.

All this talk on MUD about the "black hand" lately.... Wow, who knew it was @LS1FJ40 the whole time.

Tech:
Did a rebuild on the tried and true Aisins over the weekend. They of course still operated fine, but definitely deserved a freshening up.

Even Powdercoated/ painted them the correct 80series colors. HF powder machine FTW

Your rig bears a striking resemblance to the one in my garage. What springs are you running?
I don't know, po installed them. I looked the numbers up a couple years ago and they are ome springs. Whatever ones that give 2 inches of lift plus a 2 inch body lift from the po also.

Its not the weekend now, but decided to extend my weekend a few days and take the family camping at a hot springs and do some trail riding in south eastern Idaho. I swear every forest service road down here ends in 50" 4wheeler trails...made me mad I could get to the summit, I tried but the trails where too narrow...did find some old homesteads though.

It will probably be a while before I get this done, but I ordered two aluminum weld on bungs for the inlet and outlet of my top mount intercooler, as well as an ebay dual intercooler air temp guage. Gonna get some solid data on what is does, good or bad. I'm pretty certain it does a lot of good as long as I'm moving according to the "hand on the intercooler" temp test, but time to be more scientific.View attachment 1307517
That's a good gauge, it's very handy to keep an eye on the temp difference across the core

I took her off-road yesterday for the first time since February. I was by myself, so I stuck to plain vanilla Forest Service roads that I've driven several times already. Before the ride I had the oil changed, diff and transfer case levels checked, grease the joints, top off the fluids, checked and aired the tires. After the ride, I washed her.

Yesterday, I also started to try to find and repair the issue with my cigarette lighter. A week ago I noticed that my phone wasn't charging, and I started fiddling with it yesterday before I went riding. I searched the forums and found this video yesterday: However, on my initial visual inspection, the fusible link looked OK to me. This morning, I sat down with the part and I did notice that the link (an insulated L-shaped piece of wire) was slightly drooped in the elbow of the L. Looking even closer, I saw two almost pinhole sized holes in the insulation (evidence of a melted wire). So, following the video, I removed the insulating washer, put it all back together, and "Ta-da", I have power to my phone again.

Just throwing this out there for anyone that might be interested....

A friend of mine just picked up a '94 80 that has a dual fuel setup. It will still run pump gas but will also run on Natural Gas There is a switch on the dash that will change it from petrol to CNG. It has a large CNG tank in the rear cargo area. I've never seen a setup like this before but from what I can tell it was done well. Anyway, my friend got the 80 so he can fit his whole family, he sold his Jeep and has converted to the "good side". He needs to be able to use the third row so the CNG setup is getting removed. I suspect he'll be willing to let it go for a great price. If it's something you're interested in, PM me and I'll get you his contact info.

Just sprayed my replacement door handle from the junkyard and was wondering how good my truck would look with a new spray. Then came out of the hardware store and someone with a 91/92 in the same color with a shiny fresh respray parked next to me. Shamed me since my truck was still filthy from Chelan in addition to the crappy paint in general. Who owns this freshly sprayed 80 in Renton?

Don't worry, you still win because of his wheels :)

Finally put on the OEM window visors I'd had lying around for ages lol. Very easy and straight forward, even though the instruction was in Japanese lol. These are a must for a Florida resident like myself. This heat is brutal!

Next time will be the OEM winch and snorkel.
