Drove it 13 hours home from Cottonwood, AZ. It had been there for 17 months with @kelly saad to remedy 9 trips through the Rubicon and rust starting to form (#25 Silver 147 wheel well widening, bodywork and paint. - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/25-silver-147-wheel-well-widening-bodywork-and-paint.1370824/). It's ready for the next 40 years now and a few new love taps (hurts to think about it...).

Any chance you'd share what a nice paint job and body work cost? My 60 will eventually get a real paint job, but I'm hoping to not have to live in the thing when it's done, lol...

When you see quarter panels being removed at the spot welds and custom metal fabrication for repair it isn't cheap. Kelly does quality work and seeing his work I know he won't just slap paint on something without resolving the typical hidden underlying areas that contain rust.

I won't speak for him, but based on my own personal experience with complete restorations, you would be mistaken if you thought this was less than 5 figures. If you're serious contact him.

My speedometer cable has always been twitchy, would jump around while driving but this winter it also started making a chattering noise, so got me a new speedo cable from Cruiser Outfitters. Install pretty easy only thing that fought me was getting the rubber seal on the trans hump to seat properly, but after a lot of curse words she is in and operates perfectly.

The old one had a break in cable housing and when I turned by hand was so gritty and barely turn by hand.

@Thechief86 , in my job there was a lot more than just paint, a lot of sheet metal work. @samc2447 is spot on in his comments. Cost will vary significantly depending on what’s being done. If you want to invest in a quality job, give Kelly a call.

I'm definitely not serious, lol. I'm going to paint mine with rattle cans and not even fix the dents because I can afford to do that, but just barely. I didn't want to waste Kelly's time.

Funny how I got into 60s because it was cheap, and it somehow ends up being the most expensive vehicle I've ever owned 🤣
Don't worry, you're doing it right for what you do... and I would have to ask, and/or be interested in knowing. End goals. Rattle can for the win when necessary. Happy Friday 🍻

My original end goal was a reliable adventure wagon that cost less than a newer Bronco or 4runner, and I've reached that goal, but now I'm looking at preservation, and keeping it reliable, as well as keeping rust at bay until such time that I have a spare $50k laying around to start working towards making it look good.

I don't have a car payment, and I get to wheel something with character in Moab a couple of times a year . 😎

To clarify, I'd have ask... probably more than once too.
The only way I am able to afford two land cruisers is doing everything myself and/or friends.

Just installed the heavy duty battery cable set by @Fourrunner . Went on a roadtrip up to the Bay Area stopping in Morro Bay and last weekend was spent in Palm Springs.

You need to secure your battery with a strap across the top. Loose battery on a rough road can lead to disaster.

Installed my recovered bench seat that was upholstered to match the new front seats. . .here’s a pic immediately before a cover goes over it so my dogs don’t get it dirty!! (See the passenger side front which is covered too.) Nothing like spending $$ only to immediately cover for protection! Need to do the door cards next. Baby steps. . .

Drove mine to work. Its the longest trip since the work I did installing a rebuilt head, new head gasket along with new hoses and clamps a few months ago. Only about 9 miles but 4 of those miles were interstate and I got up to 65 MPH for several miles and it held speed no problem even with about a 1/2 mile 3% grade uphill. Didn't leak or explode so I'm almost ready to call it a win.

Thats the best feeling when you can hop in and drive without being hypersensitive to how your car runs. Congratulations 🎉

Drove up to Mt. Hood for some snowboarding yesterday. No snow on the roads right now because we've had a terrible snow season so far, but shredding on the mountain was fun. Almost rear-ended someone on the way home though because my brake pedal nearly went to the floor, so I get to figure that out now.

Rattle cans CAN look halfway decent.... not show quality like @MountNGoat's truck, but an acceptable 6-10 footer is achievable even for a hack like me with a few 2k cans and reasonable expectations. Doing a whole truck this way might get expensive anyway though 🤣
