What did you do with your 60 this weekend?

My 62 got started and actually propelled under its own power for the first time in several years! (sorry no action shots)

Finally got a rear driveshaft in it and backed it slowly out of the garage, and nothing flew out from under it! ....then washed 5+ years of garage dust and sediment mung off of it. Then drove it back and forth about 20' at a time in the driveway, the clutch works!...and nothing flew out from under it!
Couldn't stand the anticipation, so backed it out to the street and took off doing a few easy miles around the neighborhood rowing through the gearbox.
It's alive!

The second pic below gives an idea of the leap of faith this felt like actually running power through the drivetrain :hillbilly::hillbilly: ...and nothing flew out from under it!
(to say these are notchy is an understatement, sheesh, definitely needs some miles.) Also discovered it has 2Lo now.

Just run it with the strap, it’ll be fine.

The H55 in my truck is just notchy, no amount of miles will fix it.

2Low is a nice and easy mod. It's saved my bacon on trails before too.

A few years ago I ran with a ratchet strap around my left side motor mount for months. You'll be fine hahaha.

Trust me, yesterday’s drive around gave me way too much “confidence”! Lol.
It also reminded me how much neglect theres been and how much love this rig needs. I have lots of work to do.

More of my fancy seat is cracking and scratchy. Sent an email. hopefully they sell just the leather parts of these arm rests because theyve increased by 41% in price in the past few years since i bought them

This weekend I towed my 16ft boat 1400km up the west coast of Western Australia. Sitting on 105km/hr with cruise control on and aircond on - getting about 15L/100km in 40 degree Celsius heat…. We got 150km away from our destination and the alternator belt let go and took the power steering belt out with it! 1.5 hours later in the heat, wind and flys, and the spares I luckily had were fitted and we were on our way again!!

Pushing your rig in demanding conditions, having a significant breakdown, having the spare parts on hand, and having the know how and tools to remedy the situation in crummy conditions. You are a legit Cruiserhead.
Cheers mate! 🍻
(104 deg F and flies…oof)

An inconvenience in a 60 - but would be a major issue in a newer car!!! I could have driven it the 150km (without brake and clutch boosters working or power steering) but decided to sort it there and then!! Had a few beers when we arrived!!!
Thanks for your comment!!

I replaced my old ratty panel and speakers with @CruiserTrash's black ABS set and some new Alpine 6.5's. Really happy with how it turned out and definitely a nice upgrade!

Hey Will,

That platform is pretty cool, what’s the story behind that?

Howdy Ian!

It's made by a company in Colorado called Air Down Gear Up, I think the one I have was one of the first ones they made for a 60. It's a slick setup, the top is on a drawer slide and allows you to slide it out when you put your seats down. They sell em online still but they're a little pricey, I was lucky enough to get this one used for a whopping $500.

Holy Moses, a little pricey is right!
You scored on that thing then. Looks pretty slick.

I rent a small shop space in a metal building with a bunch of other shop spaces. This month a guy moved in two doors down that does platform/storage/sleeping systems. I haven’t met him yet, I just noticed a new sign on the door and googled it. He doesn’t have anything for 60s but I’ve already thought about seeing if he’d want to use my truck for measurements (and maybe I get a discount out of the deal).

Prices look way better than the ADGU stuff, but there’s not enough info to know if it’s a direct comparison.

I’m too stubborn to buy anything like that. I’ll build my own eventually.

Some good ideas in there though.

He makes some nice stuff, that is some serious grade plywood, looks heavvvvvyyy. I dig his logo.

@RevISK I really like the ext. aluminum rail construction systems, look much lighter and very customizable. There was a guy here in the forum that made his own, I'd have to search for it. Plywood gets overkilled IMO.

That extruded aluminum is likely from 80/20, that is a huge rabbit hole of a hole.

I think folks underestimate how strong plywood can be and overbuild it IMO.
