I neglected to read the last page of wiring diagram and stupidly install 2 diodes back asswards and the system didn't work. Ruined my Sunday evening.

Called Ken of epowersterring on monday and in 10 minutes we found the problem and the system works absolutely incredible. I am so so loving it. I no longer dread maneuvering in grocery store parking lots.

Handles excellent on the freeway as well. I have it turn up full blast. Wheels like a modern car.

What did I do? Drove it home for the first time. Bought a '76.
Had a '72 over ten years ago, until another driver decided to total it. That broke my heart & I'd always wanted to get another.
Well...
Here we go. Ideally, a slow paced journey down the rabbit hole. The goal(ish) is a well functioning, every other daily driver. Local camping, fishing, and ski area visits.
My wife is ok, supportive even with this!

Come on MtnYota, you can't just post a picture of two pretty girls with the wagon and leave out details. Any rust issues, the body looks to be in great shape. What's the plan for improvements and more important, you coming to the Pig Party? Right down the road from you.

I forgot...Welcome to the madness! :)

Pig Party?!
Sounds enticing! Need Deets on that, plz! If it's close I may be able! Where's that happenin? This un ain't purdy, but runs quite confidently!
The lowdown on the '76 (no name yet) is...
Found in an older fella's Cañon City driveway. Casual drivebye on a mtnbikin trip to Oil Well Flats and my bud offered to turn around and take a closer look. Well, long story short, after a few days of phone calls, we met halfway & we're both happy.
This 55 is a great 20(8 even?)footer...My hopes were less rust than usual, as it appears. PO (or POb4PO) has done a pretty good job of hiding it, as I had a case of "New buyers optimism" pretty hard. It's all cleaned up, but after handing cash....I'm starting to smell more bondo than I'd initially hoped. Rockers are well "sculpted" and there's some wonky lines.
Ya know, I don't care! Frame is solid, floors good, interior is kinda nice, lights and elec's are working, everything functions.....and she runs like a pellet shot Havalina!
I work from home, so my " Daily Driver" doesn't need to be dialed (yet). Aside from Noob's optimism, I got LOTS of little things to look at on this 55 before decisions on- lifts, pigMakeup, powersteer, 4.7's or any of that jazz. I'm sure urgent needs will take precedence.
I feel play & see drips from the steering box, I feel like that's the scariest issue atm & gonna start there.
Getting a knowledgeable buddy to look over the Birf's next. To me, they look greased but non leaky.
I'm pretty tight with a well stocked repair shop that'll let me use the lifts and garage most weekends. He's another Yota & VW fan, so it's a hobby/6 pack thing.
Next, just like my Westy, is LOTS of reading, patience, and "wrench exploring"....
We'll see whats beneath the surface soon. Fingers crossed!
That '87 Westy in the background? Started as a similar neglected but running good deal. Now it's a pretty darn solid cross country family adventure wagon. Still runnin stock motor, but she rips. Lifted for gnar camping, LOTS of functional details beneath the surface of that ole van. Same deal...someday a real nice paint job, but for now, that rig works purdy danged good. Driven danged near daily.
I'll let ya's know what's beneath the surface on this one, for sure!
Thanx in advance for the creation, participation, and support of this 55 forum. All my projects rely heavily on the vehicles respective communities!
-Andy

pigs look good in poo brown...dig the 2tone...

Seal the Rocker at A pillar where it sweeps up. Just beside bottom door hinge, that's where all the water goes in rocker. Leave holes in bottom of rocker point to. :)

I've got pics of sealing this seam in my build thread somewhere...

Got the rocker/fender install done ten days ago and left immediately on our extended trip. First chance to get on the computer and complete the pic thread. Here's the final result.

Then the real adventures began. Here's one en route, one of the rooftop tent at a campsite just outside Death Valley, one heading out on the middle portion of the Old Mohave Road, the 24-hour ultra expensive exhaust manifold repair in beautiful Baker, CA and one headed to Palm Springs.

Don't mind the ladder at all. Prefer it to getting up off the ground with my creaky old knees. We call it penthouse camping.
