I did. Used a non hardening body sealant, which I don't care for. Had the pieces painted separate and then put together. NicP filled the seam after putting together with body filler and then final painted (I believe) and it turned out better. You can see the black caulk on mine. :meh:

Here is what I did on fender/apron sealing. Starting around post #195. I haven't been on the road so not sure how it will perform but it seems to be a good tight seal.

Thanks...using panel bond is one of the options we're looking at. Originally used the same hardening sealer we used for the rain gutters.
Any other ideas out there?

That’s what I used to glue the two halves together on mine. Most of the high strength panel bond I looked at wasn’t paintable so I wiped out the seam on the outer edge before it cured and added a two part paintable seam sealer. Still going strong and I’ve banged these fenders more than once on big bushes and small trees.

Not worried as much about strength, given all the bolts on both panels, but more about keeping moisture out and rust along the seam at bay.
I'm sure my body/paint guy knows about painting issues but I'll double check.
Thanks...
Jim

Hey Jim,

You might have already checked, but while the doors are off check for cracks at the hinge mounts. Now would be a good time to get it done.
Thanks for the reminder Ron, will do. Cleaned up a couple of very minor cracks when we did the original restomod nearly seven years ago but probably should make sure nothing's reappeared.

Day 2 update...surgery underway.

Bob...notice there are a couple of drain holes in the bottoms of each or your rockers. More drainage than that? Also wondering about coating the inside of the rockers with something but seems that'd burn off or cause other issues while welding.

I used a product made by Valugard (VG-101) to rust proof after welding, the application gun has a 4’ long ¼” tube that sprays in a 360° pattern.

For some reason I’m having an issue with the interwebs and can’t find much info but this is a picture on the bottle.

The web site sucks but at least the contact info is there. Home - ValuGard

I was going to use a 3M cavity wax that applies similar to the product JMack posted. Planning to drill a few holes to insert the flexible tubing and get a 360 degree spray. I plan to do all pillars, rockers, door interiors and around the top of the roof where it all comes together. I also plan on leaving open holes in the bottom of rockers to let water out. I doubt there's much worry about what will get in.
