hit some trails today with STLCA and GA Cruisers
pig would only stay in FWD so I have some digging to do.... Last mod was adding Marlin gears to the (100series) transfer case.

Still a day on the trail beats a day at work anytime!

Headed to the high country yesterday to play with another oldtimer, my brother's factory restored 1963 Tucker Snocat. Wish the Pig looked as good as the Cat.

After putting balancing beads in some worn Wranglers rolled the old Pig to Bombay Beach on the east shore of the Salton Sea. One of the lowest points in the US, about 212 ft below sea level. It was a mission to pick up a go kart. Was way to big to fit in the 55 so pulled the wheels. Ramps were set up to the Con Fer rack with the winch line strung over the top. Up she went and away we go. 35 inch Wranglers rolled a lot better.

...and the coke bottle. Ha

My boss didn't want this on social media but I think it's OK. So this is me pulling the Ram out after pulling the skid steer out. We threw a bunch of 2x8s and plywood over the icky spot.

you know you have the cough...besides, we need some vinyl and storage gizmos for the ol IP...

S,

I have always been able to get the molded vinyl and carpet pieces and full kits for the piggies. Even custom fit carpet floor mat sets.... I posted up a thread here in the 55 forum when I first started importing the kits and never got any interest, so I quit pushing them.

If I buy this '78 I might look at the storage quarter panels. Although, I can easily make them off of some old panel cards, but trying to get a good set of those for R&D hasn't been too productive either. I thought I had a set in my piggie parts archive, but no go, just misc new OEM piggie parts.

I might have some cargo panels in the pile...I'd be happy to supply them for templates.

Been working quite a bit on the pig this week... got.to test fit the bj73 dash tonight..

It looks to be fitting good, are you happy with the fit?
IT needs more tweaking and yes it protrudes into the cab about the same amount as it would in the BJ73 so i'm relatively happy.. still have issues to resolve though but im further along than i was last week!

Next steps are to finalise panel positions then figure out what order to spot weld it all together to ensure a solid and reliable join.

6 weeks condensed into one “what I did to my pig today”(150 hours). Sorry I didn’t have time for a play by play. I still had to go to work while I took this little project on. Basically my last trip was to “Cruisin In The Woods” (Oregon)[2500 miles] I burned 12 QTs of oil. Bought a six pack of beer with every six pack of oil. Apparently the PO tried to hone out some rust stains in a couple cylinders and made them oval shaped, oil rings finally stopped doing their job if they ever did

Scope was to clean up engine compartment and components as well as rebuild engine:

Powder coat satin black; Skid plate, splash plates and battery box

De-crust and paint black; bell housing, engine mounts, pan, block and misc. parts

De-rust and yellow cadmium plate; fan shroud, overflow bottle brackets, throttle linkage, misc. brackets

Scrub, clean and touch-up paint misc. components as necessary

Engine bay(wheel wells and side aprons); clean, sand, de-rust and prime with etching primer, white primer and paint with 2 part polyurethane original Toyota factory color white #31

Engine; sleeve block for new standard size pistons, new rods, polish crank, 10 under main and rod bearings, grind cam and lifters. Balanced crank, flywheel, clutch and pulley sequentially. Balanced rods. Tune up a previously done valve job, new water pump

I had a machine shop do the above engine part milling and balancing and did the assembly myself

Just hit 500 mile break-in and ready to re-tighten the head and rockers and re-adjust valves. Very smooth running and quiet ( if you can call a 2F engine quiet.) Looking forward to my first excursion with a new engine.

I realize that compared to what some of you mudders out there accomplish this is fairly basic. But it’s been 45 years since I built engines as a kid so this was a true test for me. Hope you enjoy the pics if I can successfully load them. Inspired by all I hear on IH8MUD.
