It is the easy place to get the extinguisher in case of need. Usually the rear doors are unlocked. Hope the sun exposition is not an issue.

Not too much...

I drilled a big hole in the firewall...

So I have the brakes separated and both connected to the M/C. I hope by next weekend to have the system bled and somewhat functional with the drums. I am sure there is a ton of air in the system so I'll crack the connections and see if I can get fluid to show itself. I hope the M/C & booster work... Any checks I can do? I have yet to grab a Chiltons or Hayes manual.

I had the drum brakes working 'ok' before I started. I really wanted to have the front/rear separation; single circuit and wheels cylinders did not appeal to me . Nothing to make me say "damn, that is bad" so the MC reservoir and lid looked good. The lines when I pulled it a couple weeks ago came apart reasonably well. I am going to stick a bucket under the MC and bleed it to that point, then to the connections I made, then out to the brakes. Still waiting on some more discretionary funding for the knuckle kits...

Ok, bleeding brakes by oneself is not nearly as efficient as when utilizing another able body...

Still a little spongy but I have pressure with the first pump. I'll work it over when I have some help.

ETA: Oh yeah, I ordered myself a welder too. Getting a Millermatic 211. I had been banking work related awards and it only cost me $129 out of pocket. s*** will get REAL when it arrives next week! First project is to fix my driver side door!!

I have a quarter section that needs some welding if you need more practice.

Since last weekend....rebuild kit in front differential, replaced rear pinion seal, now have a working e-brake and halfway through replacing the gas tank with a cleaned and refurbished one (old tank had a crack on the top). Still to go...buttoning up install of new tank, a little fluff and fold on the recently rebuilt carb and repairing and extending sway bar links. Also need to swap out the heater core as it's sometimes below zero where we hunt during our preferred season.
Ought to be ready for chasing elk at the end of October but missed the chance to wheel with Shmukster while he was out in Colorado this week.

Say what?!?

Did it look anything like this?

I don't have a picture of zoomed out to show location, but I found this on the top of my tank!
Perhaps this is a common failure on Pig tanks?
I don't know about you, but pulling the old tank and replacing is a whore and a half! Not looking forward to doing that again anytime soon...

From here: Gassy Pig?

Exactly like that. With a full tank, it allowed gas to drain into the depression on top of the tank and made for great smells. I'd had it repaired when I had the tank cleaned while building the Pig 5 years ago but it reappeared. I'm told it's a common failure due to stress as the tank is mounted solidly to the frame without any bushings to allow give. Luckily found a good tank which cleaned up nicely and pressure tested ok.

Well ain't that a kick in the sack! I had my tank out in 2008 when we did the engine swap and it went to the rad shop then. I do not remember if they found a crack to repair, but we can assume that between 2008 and now it developed, giving me the same great smells...

Did you do anything to try and prevent it from re-occurring? I wonder if we were to run some rubber bushings on both sides of the tank on the mount bolts if that would do it?

Where to find such bushings? Hmm...
