Finally found a gray headrest for my 'new' passenger's seat. Need to get some seat covers next. The cloth is more comfortable than the vinyl, but the vinyl cleans up easier. There's white dog hair all over the tan cloth...there's white dog hair everywhere in the truck, it just doesn't stick to the vinyl.

Had a whooshing / gurgling sound when taking off the main tank fuel cap...
I have a similar issue - my main tank is either positively or negatively pressurized as it empties and whooshes when I open the camp. Rear tank stays at equilibrium. I've been pondering a fuel tank refresh but haven't tracked down parts yet. I figured a vent hose might be blocked? All the rubber in mine is probably more than 30 years old.

This is 400,000 km+ of accumulated bull-dust, sometimes in country laden with iron ore dust...

What are we looking at a picture of?

It seemed to be not checking and had a lot of resistance in both directions, so i've ordered a new one from japan for $25 aud, whereas in Australia these are more like $80...

Have a part # handy?

Got tires swapped onto re-powdercoated aluminum rims.
Balancing guy said 2 of them needed a ton of weights.
He checked the rims but they are round and true.
maybe tires or not symmetrical?

Seeing this pic reminds me of my time in Japan. About 9 years in 2 tours stationed there. I owned 5 vehicles in those years. A couple 4wd's and diesel. I never bought a new tire. Always a used tire from the junk yard. Usually a 31X10.50 AT or MT. I never paid more than $15 for a tire...............Different world here in the US.

Work's been nuts, and the misses and I haven't camped since NYE, so we got out on the river for some car camping and packrafting... 75 has been running like a top with the R2.8 in it. Put 2500 miles on it over April being on the road for the entire month for work. It's been a long road getting this thing trustworthy but after four years I can finally pack it up and drive away knowing it'll get me home.

Thanks for posting... you just gave me a place to put all the stickers I get. I have a strong aversion to putting stickers on my ride, but I do not mind plastering my fridge!

I am happy to hear you are enjoying the fruits of a well maintained cruiser!

Question for the brain trust,

Taking apart a stuck VSV (13BT 24v) and swear I felt something hit my shirt - no idea what it was.

Is there supposed to be a small spring or what between these two pieces?

Turned the garage upside down, mag broom and all and I can't find a thing...

I would guess there is a spring.

Cheers! I have wayyyyy too many stickers right now. I need to cover it more.

All it took was taking out the 30+ year old Toyota Diesel and dropping in a R2.8 powerhouse. haha. (ducks and covers)

I changed / renewed the heater fan resistor . Lovely , I've got a 4 speed fan again . :)
did mine a few months ago. It really isn't a stellar design as far as longevity is concerned, although I guess there wasn't much else available in the 80s. If mine ever goes again, I'm shoving an Arduino with a PWM script in there.

I have noticed what appears to be an enormous amount of blow-by on my 3B engine from the draft tube coming out of the crankcase. Also don't have a great time starting cold (already checked glow plugs, battery not too old), and my oil pressure reads on the low end of acceptable - although I know the dash oil pressure gauges aren't hugely trustworthy. I was fearing that my engine was well and truly flogged, but compression test showed very good results across all cylinders. This was tested cold, when compression should be worst. The lowest cylinder is still ~400 PSI, and I'm pretty sure I stopped that one early.

Very nice to find something that isn't broken on my Cruiser for once! I'm chalking the air rushing out of the draft tube to maybe be normal behaviour for a diesel?

Glad your compression numbers were all up (and more importantly, matching). Curious on what the other possible causes of high blow-by on a NA diesel 🤔

Well, older 3B mine is at 324kkm) apparently usually have a noticeable blowby, which is no concern.
But I had a similar issue on my 3B last spring. All on a sudden, briefly after a regular oil change: Very high blowby; much more than before. I drove it nevertheless on some long planned trips, ~1000km. I already had a threat started here on rebuild options, when someone ask a video of the issue. Went out to shoot it ... Guess what: Gone & back to normal, all on a sudden.
Did a pressure test: All good (hadn't had a chance to do a pressure check while the issue persist).
My mechanic and me think it may have been a valve blocked by a carbon particel or a stuck piston ring.
Anyways, carbon buildup is what we suspected to be the root cause.
I was recommend to some engine cleaning agent (LiquiMoly 31015598 2427 Proline) and switched to synthetic oil. No further trouble since.
Good Luck Ralf

I need to get my head around this, but a mate reckons the crankcase volume is non-constant with piston position. Big pistons = quite a lot of huffing air. Need to sanity check

Finally added some 24V tunes, still working on a better solution for speakers. Tossed in a pair of pioneers that look like they should be in the back window of a 81’ Camaro for now. I didn’t want to cut into the composite side panels so I am considering building an extension to the Dobinson drawers to house a couple of 6x9’s while I build up the sides so my dogs can hang out the windows.

Fortunately, most of the music I listen to doesn’t require high fidelity!

*Not pictured is the new 24V bulb for the climate control panel, equally as exciting and took about the same amount of time!

That's good to know how that Continental looks in the dash; I'm considering one in 12V for my BJ70 when I get to the minor things like that instead of procrastinating on putting the engine in and finding reasons to delay things.

I think there is a bit of a worry about how everything will go (or won't go) as I'm changing from a 3B to a 13b-T and need to relocate the PS reservoir, sort out the glow circuit and the stop circuit (they start and stop differently), so I'm finding other things to do instead...
