Bug @CruiserTrash to make some more...
Sigh. The last two I sent out (months ago now) both broke almost immediately. I'm wondering if it was an issue with the product I use. I followed the same exact method, using the same exact recipe. I'm quite an OCD guy and measuring this stuff at fractions of a gram and getting it right every time is no problem.

Maybe I should toss the product I have and get some fresh stuff that would be from a new manufactured batch. I just hate to send something that's not going to work because getting into the tailgate to the gear itself is such a pain in the ass for you guys.

Of all the ones i sold through shapeways . none have failed as of yet . they were all PA11 , SLS method . sales were about 50 for bolth styles . hope this helps
I always thought that was a great choice you made as nylon is definitely the way to go with these gears. PA11: aka Polyamide 11 or Nylon 11.

In need of one of these gears also. I noticed someone mentioned there are two "styles"? Recessed? Attached a pic of mine. Not sure which one i have??

I had a stainless tailgate handle printed by Craftcloud last year. Does anyone know of a CAD file that i could buy to send to Craftcloud for this gear?

Thanks

There are two different OEM gears. Once has the metal insert built in (like your broken one) and one doesn't. The shafts are also different and matched to the gear IIRC. As far as I know they are both recessed. I do recall some discussion around some gears that were machined without a recess from time to time but don't remember the nuances. Maybe it's in the Rear Window Thread?

If I were you, I would print one in some form of Nylon. Just my 2 cents. I know there was a file on Shapeways but they went out of business. I think someone took the business over but I could be mistaken.

Here's a photo showing the two different OEM gears:

Thanks for info. I was already gonna try to use the PA11 material if Craftcloud has it. They have a messload of different material options. I'm somewhat confident I can find something plastic/nylon that's flexible so as to not shatter but still "fuse break" to protect gear box. A CAD file to email them is my quest now. Note-- The rear window thread is my new Bible. Pretty much have it memorized - Gary S is my hero. All the other things I've been redoing and restoring on the vehicle have been a walk in the park compared to all the tailgate stuff. Crazy-cool mechanical engineering everywhere. Thanks again.

Do you still sell them, or is there a file saved in Shapeways we can use. I have been printing PETG and the double d is my weak point.

I don’t think PETG will ever work for these gears. The material is too flexible. Can you print nylon 11 (PA11)?

I see PA12-CF10, ill have to do some research. I have maybe 100 ups and downs on the PETG, messed up and ran it too high when I wasn't watching.

I'm gonna try these guys.

I have loaded the file to Thingiverse for everyone to use.

If I download to PrusaSlicer it it the correct size. Cura Slicer makes it very small. Metric to Inches conversion I believe.
