So I suggest you set the tcase rear output the same angle the rear diff pinion is at. This being with the truck fully loaded up with how it will be once done. This will allow for a standard rear driveline and no vibes.

Cheers

That makes a ton of sense. Since I am going to put a lift in this rig, would I need to put the new springs in there before taking this measurement? Of course I have been waiting on ordering the new springs until I had weight calculations of old engine vs. new..... What came first, chicken or the egg?

Yes with new springs and all weight in it.

if you are willing to cut off the leaf perches and weld on new ones it can-will make it all easier. You can set diff pinion where you want then. You still want to set it up the same way though.

Cheers

Prefer not to, but if needed.... Only plan to do a couple inch lift to allow for some bigger tires, but I have not put time into that research yet. Kurt's first question was weight of engine change, so did not get far with lift calc.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just set the transfer case plumb, adjust pinion angle if it's an issue down the road but I doubt you'll have a problem. You've got a few degrees of tolerance in each direction before you'll have an issue

Quick update. I have been looking for options on the 4l80 transmission. Rebuilt or used to see what options are out there. I ran to two junkyards yesterday, crawled under 70 or more trucks and found none of them.

Well, I just looked at the emailed invoice from Advanced Adapters and noticed anticipated ship date Feb 23rd.... So, I guess I am not in that huge of a hurry to find a tranny.

This project will get set aside for a while as I get parts accumulated.

I might work on the seat mounts or little things, but the engine project is going to stop for a while.

Until next time....

yep, good used 4l80es are getting hard to find as they are are awesome for high-HP street cars. It took me and a friend several weeks to get a good running running one for under $500. The good news, if you get a good used one you can just put it in and forget about it. It will be the heaviest duty part on your Cruiser.

This sounds backwards but find one with old nasty fluid. If it has brand new looking fluid that means someone changed it hoping to fix a problem, since that's everyone's first thing they do to a failing auto.

Good info.... let the search begin.

Saw this on craigslist. Might be an option. They have 4l70e transmissions listed which are supposed to be pretty strong, not sure if this helps but here is what I saw...

I found that as well, and did a search on that company, and they had a couple bad reviews..... not exciting me to go that way.

If you go with a 700r4 or 4L60 not 4l60E you won't have to deal with ECM control of the tranny. It can be quite a bit of tuning to get the 700r4 TV cable adjustment right.

Well, already headed down the path of the 4l80e.... no going back.

First new thing added to Inigo was thanks to @c2dfj45

Forgot to post pics of my son helping me delete a bunch of hoses and the steps. We took out the diesel lines, vacuum for transfer case and clutch. The pile bolts in my hands are from removing the runningboards... look almost new. I’m used to have to find a little rust, so this has been a pleasant treat!!

Also started working on making seat mounts for the Honda prelude seats as well as tear them down to add seat heaters.

I know you said you’re not in a hurry, but just as a heads up -if ordered from Mark’s 4x4 directly you will receive adapter(s) within a week.

Oh man, 3rd gen Prelude seats👍🏻

So damn comfortable. Doesn’t your son have 4th gen seats in his “truck”?
Yep... i’m going to tear his down also this week and add seat heaters.

It's just a simple 6-bolt ring with tapped holes in it.
Mind this is a 60 tank, I don't know what 70 tanks look like. The carb 60 tank has a basket section in the middle and was clearly designed for future EFI use

We pulled a diesel tank out and it has a separate fuel level sending unit then the pick up spot. The size is very similar to the plate you show above, wondering if I can just make a new plate and add what you have

I ordered my low range gear on a Sunday and they were at my door on Wednesday. Gotta love DHL for international shipping.

@cruisermatt can you point me in a direction for the fuel fittings?
