So the ornch Pig is a '73 and the gray one is a '71?
You are correct! June, 1971 and August, 1973 respectively. The ol' dreamsicle is a factory 4spd which was a pleasant surprise. I found the shifter plate that some folks here made to retain the column shift on a 40 and would wager it would cross. The shifter eats the dash on this early one and I have a really hard time cutting a mint trans tunnel. Like, I just don't want to. And I learned quickly they don't swap from early to late and vice-versa.

Anyone here have realistic experience with the Corbeau seat bracket and can give me feedback? I saw one for sale here like 15 years ago with no response to an Aussie about six years ago 🤣 I'm built like a 5'8" Asian woman if that helps with the feedback, or if you just wanna roast me, idc either way
1000030333.webp

I ask because I've hoarded this pair of seats for a while and recently pulled them outta the 80 series which I made brackets for. I can't imagine they wouldn't look super slick in the Ornch one, but I also can't help but feel it would take away from part of what makes these great. I can always just sit on one less pillow on the bench than I did when I was a kid 🤠

^ Sweet, space it up or see if Recaro makes pillows. Got it.

Welp, this is mentally starting to snowball which means I need a budget. I reckon it's time to part ways with the lockers for the 100. I came to the realization that my poverty locked setup is enough to have a great time quite a while ago. I can just go back to that, start trailering it, and finish beer-canning it. I spent the budget for the 100 refresh on the Pig. I think it's seen its last summit and the Pig needs to see it's first.

I need that frame in the classifieds in Denver for this. I've been drooling over it since it has everything I literally need for this to be a driver. Now I need to talk my friend in Aurora into grabbing it for me. Or start an OnlyFans. I know y'all are into yoga pants, but I'm thinking what really pays in these trying times is dressing up like a cat and showin' the ol' b-hole.

And I'm not sure why they hammered the pinion nut on and killed the bearing up front, but it appears that's a thing here.
1000030344.webp

As well as the rear pinion seal is toast. It's been sitting for probably 20 or 30 years, I expected to do all seals pretty much immediately. I have a few stashed, just gotta make an honest list

Swap in the top plate and shifter from a FJ60. Direct fit and moves the shifter back about 3.5 inches.

Already on the radar for a V8 swap! One of the first things I did when I got the 73 was draw some garbage out on cardboard to adapt a 3uz I've been hauling around for too long. It was in my Soarer with an r154 bolted up literally until I brought the Ornch one home, at which point I scrapped an SC400 I was 95% done doing an OEM factory 5 speed SC300 swap in and parted it out, then slapped the jz/w58 combo in my z20 and pulled the 3uz with dreams of the V8 in the 73. Unfortunately, it's rusty enough that I feel it will rapidly deteriorate ripping it with 300hp, but an F would be the perfect street truck for someone that loves to suffer.
1000030352.webp

So the 3uz still sits with a flywheel and clutch in it. I found a thread on here where someone modified an older 4spd V8 plate adapter to fit the a34X bellhousing. Those adapters don't seem to exist anymore and the one that came with the 73 was homemade by Helen Keller apparently. This basic cardboard I drew up would be okay, but in a perfect world the seal/bearing retainer integrated in would be the move. I found a Japanese made pilot bearing that fits the H42, and shoved it in there. Do I think it will happen any time soon? Nope. I'm surprised I got that far. ADHD and Lonestar can either be a curse or a blessing

It sits here in a pile with a gutted 340 and hf2a mock up cases for a few reasons

Everything is dead but the 100, shuffling cars by myself sucks

This big pry bar has moved a lot of cars with just me on the other end. No wonder I'm always sore

Got busy and forgot to check the mail for the carb kit. I'm not sure this is the path of least resistance because there's definitely resistance. But it's a path, and we're moving forward. I was really hoping I was basically gonna throw a rug in the hall and tie a couple rooms together, but the worms have been de-canned and this allows me to use a little patience and build something instead of slap something together, like I'm about to do to this Ornch truck. I wanna drive this thing. Or one of these things.

Now that I have all the proper mounts, I can confirm that the retard that put the V8 in here moved the bracket on the frame forward and it wasn't a hungover Japanese man the Monday after Golden Week in 1973.

Carb kit was in the mailbox. New OEM diaphragm for the secondary, hell yeah.

That's an odd caliber frost plug for a engine built in japan...
1000030376.webp

I wonder if they actually cared about it or if aftermarket parts weren't available? I feel like 50cent asking all these questions

That's one hell of a catch on the freeze plug. Does it have any siblings on the block you can identify? Maybe it's just a plug or two or maybe the engine has been rebuilt...any other indications of a teardown? Antique archeology at it's finest :)

Definitely been gone through, here's the back of the cylinder head.

I guess I'll have to take the time to square up the hack job of getting this GM alternator on there at some point. That point isn't today, today I want this engine square and mounted

Your engine would have come with the round rubber front engine mounts, they didn't last very long and were discontinued. We were expected to make those 60 series front engine mounts work.
I thought the engine was supposed to sit a little off-center in the engine bay?

It's just crazy to me that someone spent OEM money on this beater lol. And dude, I have no idea, but that s*** makes my brain hurt looking at it. My problem is I have one truck with a straight frame that someone cobbled a locked up 327 into, and another one with a banana frame. Whole s*** is shifted. I could square the fenders, it's literally the frame is waxed that bad. FML

So here we are, fixing the ****ed bracket position in the Ornch one. And I'll be damned if it isn't gonna be square, you got this one wrong Toyota. I wonder if the Pork Squad at the plant was just a bunch of feral, drunken, Japanese Tradesmen?

The hole is what made me look further. Then I found a out a 3/8" long piece of mig rod still glued to one of the welds.
