Either way I'm fairly certain there isn't any o rings in the rocker banjo chingadero and that ain't good, as well as the oil up top looked a little better than the oil in the crank case

It can take a while to see oil dripping off the rockers...
Also, to get oil up top with the priming tool, the oiling holes in the cam bearing have to line up with the oil passages in the block.
That was exactly what I needed to hear, guess I need to pop this rocker off and see how bad it is, but it's getting oil up top finally. Took wayyyy longer than I felt it should.

Last time we primed a F engine we ran the drill for what seemed like forever with zero oil showing up top. But we were building oil pressure. Once we confirmed rough timing and poured some gas down the gullet, it came to life and still took what seemed like forever to see oil run down the rockers. FWIW, I now use an oil can to oil the top end before firing up a sitting engine.

By my understanding, rocker shafts can get filled with gunk inside.
I'll be checking that when I pull the rocker shaft to inspect the oil feed situation where it all bleeds out at the banjo. @Pighead squared me up, and even if the worst case scenario that I jumped to was the case, I woulda just yanked it and attempted to dress my 3fe as a 1f up front and marched on (although already noted my alternator setup wasn't gonna work).. Hell, that quickly became the plan until I read that post. At any cost, I'm just gonna keep sacrificing time and learning until something shakes. It's the process that's worked for me in the past.

Anyhow, this evening's porkular action consists of brakes and Pork steaks. I could be wrong but these look like OG wheel cylinders all around. Adjustment orientation was all consistent with OEM, and none of this s*** is frozen. I'm excited. I have two that are leaking (RR, both) and I'm sure the others won't be far behind, but I'd wager a rebuild kit will get me right. Someone already rebuilt these at some point, note the adjuster retainer upside down on the leading cylinder on the pic of the rear

Also found the steering box is smoked
This thing was tough to turn, finally yanked s*** and determined the box itself is super bound up. No big deal, the grey truck works and at this point I see a later model steering box in its future since I actually have to build it instead of slapping it together

How’s the habanero honey mustard, looks pretty good!
Dude anything from Melinda’s is great! If you can do spice, this is magic. I mix it with Balsamic vinaigrette and do these smoked pork steaks or loins over shredded cabbage with Greek yogurt and sunflower seeds with that dressing combination for lunches quite a bit if I’m not smoking burgers. I absolutely LOVE smoking meat. I have officially reached old age.

I used it as a binder here for the pepper blend. I've found the HEB garlic pepper grinder blend has damn near the perfect amount of salt for a great Texas style BBQ seasoning. Add a little 16 mesh pepper to even the proportions and it makes a mean bark on brisket and pork butts. I always have a hard time considering moving out of state because I've centered my eating habits around a Texas only market

Also, happy Father's Day to those that apply. Sure wish the old man was here to roast for painting that ****ing 2f yellow one last time. I think my exact words in 4th grade was "That's retarded"

Your Dad was obviously a man of great vision!
A yellow 2F - who knew that was the way to go?

I was a lucky kid, man. I’ve always wondered where this 40 ended up. Disappeared from my apartment parking lot right around my 18th birthday and hasn’t been seen since. I’ve lurked here over the years watching. There was zero rust and I could tell you where the filler is still, because block sanding this in 4th grade hours before school started with my father happened whether I liked it or not hahahaha

I hope you find it someday!

Fire it and it seems lean, won't idle. Pull plugs and find the lawnmower plugs on the right. Shoulda found these a long time ago. At this point I started questioning the entire rebuild

Pulled the valve cover, all of the valves but maybe one or two with no lash, and even those weren't in spec. In fact, my issue was the valves being so tight they appeared preloaded open. While I was there I noted the top end feed setup, that it appeared dicked, and way less oil than I expected, although clean as if it was new.

This thing has been off its axis for a good while before the rebuild and wore a groove in the shaft. If I was a gambling man in the typical sense I'd bet this caused the drop in oil pressure that paved the road to the machine shop.

But I fired it. And for a cold fire, three pumps of the accelerator and it lit right up and felt and sounded SUPER crisp. Just zero oil up top. I had the dizzy out at one point when it was in the 71, so I started there. I could swore it was fine, but still, I needed a priming tool anyway so sacrificed a screwdriver.

RTFM FOREVER <3! First thought is the camshaft bearing was installed incorrectly after confirming the tube wasn't broken. Started doing a little searching and it seems these F engines had the passage in journal no2, and later model cams in journal no3. Again, I'm not a betting man, but at this point I'm about to go buy a lottery ticket because you can bet your ass I can turn a square into a pear.

Many ways to do it wrong, eh?

As it sits here on Tuesday night, 8:30pm CST. I just wanna drive one of these things and per Murphy, I'm gonna have to really work for it. So much of the way here I've felt like I went to the grocery store and shopped a full basket only to realize I left my wallet at home. I'm sitting here with a smirk though. This thing hasn't had a Toyota engine in it in probably 30 years but it does today, and it made Toyota sounds, and idled.

Pig (the dog) looks pleased.

Slapped the hood from the camo truck on it and pushed it outside to start parting the practice kid's Sequoia since the alternator took a s*** in the 100 and the UCK was abandoned at my shop in December after someone stole the cats. Kid pussed all the way out even though I had all of the stuff to get it back together. Turns out he's not willing to invest the time in getting to the end of the road, he just wants an Uber to drop him off there, and I ain't the ****ing one.

But not before I went down a brake rabbit hole. Spent the time to get the discs and brackets off of the 71 and onto the 73, then promptly decided I would 200% rather have working OEM drums than s***ty brackets with GM parts, so I started cleaning the backing plates. It was good to see both sides full of CV grease with ZERO signs of inner axle seal failure, so now I'm waiting on hub and spindle seals/gaskets and will go back together with the drums. I just couldn't bring myself to not do Toyota parts up front

Addressed the lines on the front axle that were smashed by an inattentive wrecker driver
1000030593.webp

Then I yanked the master from the 71 which had been replaced when the discs were done on it just to find it leaking out of the piston and full of corrosion. Looked at the one on the 73 and although it appears original, it had way less trash in the fluid that was in it as well as didn't appear to have any leaks yet, so I spent way too much time flushing the actual cylinder bore the best I could without traveling the piston. Basically fill, with fluid and cap it, shake vigorously, dump, blow crap out repeat. Once I was satisfied with what came out, I filled and attempted piston travel which moved freely and built the pressure it seems it's supposed to. So I bench bled it and it's ready to go back on after I get my spindle seals and some soft lines

Six years ago I shared that I needed a 4wd and now I need an intervention. If I'm not driving the Ornch truck by August can y'all just jump me? I really need to finish at least one project, it's been a while 😔
