His name is PigPig for a reason. In the figurative sense he's an absolute Hog. Depending on your perspective I've either been blessed or haunted by Pigs my entire life in all forms; I'm a product of 1983 which is the Year of the Pig. My father's only other child, ALSO born in the Year of the Pig. I learned to drive in a Pig. My Practice Kid I raised was born in the Year of the Pig. So naturally I acquire a dog, name it Pig (twice, now). And now PigPig is about 11. It's important to me that he gets to go for some good adventures in a Pig as this is the first Pig that got to see a Landcruiser, especially one that was part of the lore.

The ol' redneck Cerdito has had all the focus here, but it's not the direct path to how we got here; Just Northwest of Santa Fe sat this little '73...

Polluck Orange. Probably my favorite color. The practice kid and I were fresh off a SW CO trip which had me contemplating some geographical changes. I started eyeballing the logistics of Northern New Mexico and came across this gem
1000028214.webp

It was advertised for $900 and had a small block Chevy in it. Nostalgia kicked in and the though of wringing out a small block behind a POS non synchronous 3 speed just seemed like the kinda Magic I was chasing at this stage in life, so I asked the kid if I could steal his marketplace Sequoia we just slapped together and sent to CO and headed back towards the San Juans. Upon arrival we quickly yanked the small block and started work towards the retarded sequential injected and ignition 3fe behind the factory h42. Traded a pair of Volks for my Prius (yeah, I'm that guy) I hoarded for a standalone to make the magic happen without the bull**** vane airflow meter.

Did my best to passively think about these Pigs for the last couple of weeks while getting some other stuff done. Pretty much haven't done s*** other than rub one out on a door on the orange one, slap my 17s on the grey one. I'm normally not a fan of wagon wheels but I feel okay with them on the orange one. I absolutely hate black wheels on everything and need to at least spray paint the 17s on the grey truck until I can figure out what I'm gonna do with them.

I couldn't sleep earlier which got me to finally take apart the carb. It's really fairly clean and I was starting to get discouraged that I had missed something else until I noticed the venturi stake marks weren't lining up. It turns out someone popped them out and after a little research appears swapped the larger secondary one into the primary. This should be fun. I've never even ****ed with a weed eater, but I'm keen with efi. This carb s*** was my Father's Black Magic, and he was good at it. At a certain point he ran a vac switch into the cab on our 22r pickup and dialed in the leak somehow with different sized orifices until he was happy. Toggle the Jack In The Box antenna ball on the CB and it would idle up to the sweet spot for Texas Hill Country limestone ledges. Hoppin' equals throttle choppin' equals McRingGear and his homie Pinion exits the chat so he came up with that. Well he's dead, so can't ask him about my basic venturis question lol. Consulting the Googles landed me the FSM and a thread on RisingSun by @RicardoJM which has me headed where I need to. At this point I've been sitting here trying to understand the logic of popping out the venturis. There might not even be any sound logic for this, but at least now I'm tired, lol.

This looks like a McChangenstein rebuild kit, but it came with the truck and I have it so we're using it
1000030014.webp

Right, I use the carb kits from Cruiser Outfitters...

View attachment 4155491
I was hoping now and free was gonna be the option. I love Cruiser Outfitters, first sticker that went on the Pig. Second one is the goal for the first outing which I stumbled upon coming back from GSMTR in '23 on a long detour.
1000030153.webp

So now I'm at a crossroads, or rather was. Now I'm just taking a left and gonna see where this lands me.
1000030075.webp

Plunger bore was missing parts or had broken parts in it at some point on the OG carb and got hammered to dog s*** from what it looks like after a closer inspection. Bore is absolutely garbage. It'd be cool to find another body and rebuild this at some point on GP, but today ain't that day
1000030055.webp

So now it looks like I'll be ordering a kit for the 60 series carb. There's a couple things I like about the differences from the reading I've done and I'm kinda excited learning all the little stuff to try to dial it in. Long term goal is to add some sensors, extract data from them, make some questionable decisions based on the data, make everything over complicated, and then scrap it all for a V8 or diesel or a corolla because I have up on life. Lots of irons in the fire, never know which one I'm gonna poke!

Also, I was V DISAPPOINTED finding no extra jets in the jet access plugs. But I'm guessing it's due to the later HAC that this thing supposedly has going for it.
1000030154.webp

Ol' Banana Dick'd BS 🤣
1000030155.webp

1000030156.webp
1000030157.webp

I'm gonna see what I can mix and match and get away with. I'm starting to think I'll mod the 60 body a little bit, and use the original everything else along with the 60 series phenolic spacer chingadera. Feeling optimistic. I'd love for this thing to run this weekend so I can find more things wrong in different areas.
1000030158.webp

I guess at this point I'm just waiting on a rebuild kit and a secondary diaphragm. Placed an order for a 60 series kit and OEM diaphragm. Looking like the final setup is the top section and venturis from the original carb to eliminate the HAC bull****, and everything else from the 60 to accommodate the vacuum secondary. I drilled and pulled the cap for the idle screw assembly and cut the throttle plate rods that didn't pertain to my early linkage setup needed.
1000030194.webp

1000030196.webp

Next I gutted the secondary slow cut valve. 17/64 drill bit and an m8 x 1.25 tap and some sleeve retainer buttons that up
1000030212.webp

1000030215.webp

Then there's the linkage. A little butchering with the flapper wheel and a lot of hand filing got that sorted. Here's the start.
1000030219.webp

The base of the carb is different, specifically the angle which the idle screw comes in at, so a little chop and tack of the linkage gives me the proper angle. Per Murphy's law, I forgot to turn the gas on before tackage. Whatever, it will still work. Now it's just a wait until Monday so I can see where my logic went pear shaped (or not). As it sits, I feel I could reassemble with the fresh parts it needs (it's Summer in TX, the choke can choke on it) and hear it rip.

Absolutely worthless data starting point but I wanted a realistic ball-park. Has a crate in the back with glass in it, missing the battery, carb, and front driveshaft, and rear seat and interior. Tells me this thing should be about 4200lbs which is crazy light to me!
1000030284.webp

Went to swap the wheel cylinders to the correct side so they can actually get adjusted out and found one on each side FROZEN-FROZEN and another sticky, but that one was able to be put (body) in the vice and (piston) free'd with a medium pry bar. I tried to fill the others with an acetone/atf mix as best I could and will revisit but I have no real hope and am looking forward. Appears that they installed the wheel cylinders and then gave up without purging all the s*** fluid from the system. I think they went to adjust them and found they biffed it by putting the WCs on the wrong side and just gave up on the whole thing. The PO didn't disclose what all he did to this thing, and honestly, I just didn't ask. It was an impulse decision that I made knowing it wasn't something I should be doing at the time, but absolutely HAD to do at the same time. All I know is it was purchased from the panhandle of Texas and driven off a transport to his house about 1-1/4 mile and parked where it got taken apart and the floor shift was added.

Anyhow, it seems I somehow ended up with two rigs with a/c added. I knew the Orange one had it, it came with these

And then while trying to figure out who makes this aftermarket bracket on the grey one
1000030303.webp

I found this gem of a thread! I need to finish reading through all of that, but today ain't the day. Validating browser… - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/the-ultimate-a-c-thread-for-pigs-air-conditioning.356709/page-2
Instead I went back to looking. I initially thought it was an aftermarket kit bracket and someone had the box sitting in a garage long forgotten. I sure wish they hadn't peeled the rest of the system! Id wager it got smoked in *one* of the collisions and was scrapped due to parts obscurity or the change of heart to ranch vehicle.
1000030306.webp

I see how they utilize the spare and the wiper circuits, my assumption would be as a defrost device. Super neat.
1000030311.webp

Anyway, this rabbit hole was brought to you by ADHD as it all spiraled from noticing how ****ing crooked the engine was and then getting side-quested by the a/c compressor bracket I forgot to research a month ago. So I suppose the next step when I get back from the river is loosen all the mounts and flipping the engine mounts to their correct orientation, and going from there. Carb date tells me this is probably original, but the mounts are for sure new up front.
1000030314.webp

Header is touching the hard line, clutch return spring is on the t case linkages, cluster is pulled, regulator wiring was clipped and left chilling, front exhaust stud missing, LOTS of little s*** to do. Carb rebuild kit ain't getting this one back going. And there's still the needing 60 series knuckles so I can throw some proper high steer at it.... WOOF! At least it forces me to kinda start my focus on electrical.

Had high hopes that I could sort a few things out and be driving this one next week, but as I actually invest a little time and start looking at the details, I realize that's just not realistic. The time adds up and while I could probably bust my ass and sort some things and throw a couple parts at it, if I do that I'll never take the time to do a lot of things right. So I sanded on it a little more. Here's some good reference points of how waxed it was. It's had a roof, a quarter panel, and now it's subject to whatever torture I end up giving it. Happy 55th Birthday Motherfucker!

Those are nice to have!
It looks like you have two different systems?
I am glad you like the AC thread - that is a reminder for me to get back in there and finish my darn AC!

That looks like a 6-2-1 header?
Maybe an old Downey?

^ I honestly have no clue, but it looks decently made and ceramic coated. Man, as I actually look at this thing objectively I just keep finding random stuff that I know has a story and I wish I knew it. Can't find a hole in the door to match trajectory which makes me think this happened on accident from the driver's seat, but I know a bullet hole when I see one.

This thing has the inspection cover on it (which I'm SUPER thankful isn't missing) and I will absolutely s*** myself if I find the McSlug
