My Cruiser was struggling to start and watching the Victron shunt and it was clear that the alternator wasn't charging like it used to. I purchased a new reman AC delco Jaguar alternator from RockAuto and installed it over the weekend. The jag alternator is a drop in replacement but needs some trimming to fit. Both the mounting ears and plug are identical to Toyota.

Trimming this point allows enough swing to get the belts on. I also installed a helicoil in the bottom unthreaded mount position to reuse the original M8 bolt.

The new alternator is charging the battery at 14.4V compared to 13.3V of the old one.

While I was in there, I installed new battery terminals.

Where'd you get the terminals? Those I like.

As with Amazon the 4 post terminals are no longer listed.
I actually bought 3 sets of terminals. This was the only pair that worked well with the 24F battery posts. The others were too long to fit between the battery posts and the battery tray.

I plan on installing the same terminals on my house battery if I can find them again.

I'm familiar with them :)

Big thanks to Shaun @angerhater for offering to help and Kurt @ Neslrac for hosting and helping get this winch installed before Logan’s Run. Kurt did win this winch for me so it was only right to make him put it on. This has been the last option I have been wanting on the Beast to make Logan’s truck complete.

We had a great Sunday afternoon to get this installed and if we didn’t have what we needed, Kurt had it. I really did assist but tried to stay out of their way. Thanks again guys!!

Now if I can get Izzy to teach me how to use to help people. I don’t think Logan’s truck will ever need it. :bounce2::bounce:

@lt1fire Al, I finally put that bumper to use that you sent me. We didn’t have the time to complete any of the parts install you sent but Kurt has so kindly offered to host me again.

Nice Kenny now install all those parts I sent you.

A full OEM tune up and whole sale automatics valve body will make that thing run like new.

Yeah I'm not convinced the compressor died internally, the sound sounds like it might be the clutch itself. When I just had the evaporator out I didn't see any metal in it or the expansion valve. And the noise had occurred before then, just less often. So hopefully it's clean internally. That being said if I do need to flush the AC system, not fully certain how to do that.
In response to this,

I was laying under the 80, getting my butt kicked by the drag link, when I noticed the AC belt was exceptionally loose. I thought maybe that's the source of my noise. Sure enough tightened the belt and the AC works great and is silent.

I will maintain my stance however the noise it made sounded nothing like belt squeal. I have no idea how it managed to make that noise. But hey can't beat an easy fix.

And I'd given up on having full working windows for Moab, until my AC wasn't working. So I frantically installed window runs, motors and regulators, and window weather stripping along the door. So this is the most luxurious she's ever been.

Minus me not realizing the track built into the bottom of the drivers rear window was bent up and the wheel keeps popping out. So it's rolled up and unplugged for now.

Kind of wrenching? Unistrut hoist installed in the shed to store parts out of the elements in my shed loft. Should have done this years ago.

It's like a mini gantry crane.

That’s cool! Did you use lag bolts for your 2x4 bracing/track run?
6x 3" grks per collar tie to the trusses, and a single 5" grk from the unistrut into the collar ties from the bottom.

Sounds legit - having no idea what grk means. I’ll check it out. Thanks!

I wish I had a loft

A tale of steering boxes, it does appear that without a doubt, I twisted the splines on the sector shaft of the steering box on my 80 at Moab. Got real bound up on a little ledge being stupid and fought the steering way too much.

Second pic is of my spare box, splines look mint.

Third pic is the box I pulled at LKQ today, honestly looks a little twisted too, which surprised me given it was a completely stock 80 that had definitely never been wheeled. And hadn't been wrecked.

105 sector shaft. Done.

I believe all the new 80 series boxes from Toyota already have the 105 sector shaft installed. They are super pricey though. You may decide it's cheaper to send the box to Red Head and have them rebuild it with the 105 shaft. They can do that. It's not cheap, but cheaper than a new one from Mr. T.

Which yard were you at? I just checked both Greer and White Horse Road and neither show an 80 there.

LKQ Charlotte just got a '94 80 last Friday. @fourtrax posted about it in the misc. for sale thread. It's got some really cool rims on it that you will love.
