If he put the screwdriver down the throat of the carb like I said then it shouldn't matter if it's wide open. Just open.

I was going with the KISS method - wasn't trying
to type a ton.

Gabe - there will be some parts off the hosed motor you can sell - valve cover, dizzy, dented side cover, oil pan.

Or you could sell the whole thing to someone who might want to build one to have at the ready when theirs goes. Just saying, it's easier to try to sell a whole motor first versus parting one out.

Parting out may bring more $$$ but takes more time.

It is easier to sell whole. A complete motor needing a rebuild will go for what, $200-300?

Valve cover $50
Dizzy and dented side cover $50
Oil pan $50

And then misc parts for a few bucks. Might be better for more $ to sell as a whole if someone will take it.

Last motor I bought was running well but tired and I paid 400. 250 would be more expected.

150 for dizzy and side cover.

25-50 for oil pan

Who knows what has happened to the internals.

Manifold 50

starter 25

alt 25 if it works.

thats about it.

Or sell it for 250 and be done with it.

Gonna be a minute before i have time to get to it. Who has a cherry picker?

350 with a 700r4 adapted to case. Talk me out of it.....

Doesn't the 2F in the Dent run well? Why not just use it?

I strongly suggest you get the new body running well with anything you need to pull out of the Dent - assuming you have everything you need from the Dent. Once you have a 60 on the road and running then focus on swaps and "improvements." If you get in too deep too soon you will get swamped and discouraged when you don't have a Cruiser on the road for years.

I agree with you. Just thinking out loud. I think i will swap drivetrains then work on a diesel swap later on. That is what my heart is set on.

are you doing the install or someone else?? if you, **** no if a professional heck yeah ************

No one was born knowing how to do all of this including you b#$%@!! Besides i would have help. That being said i do plan on trying to do as much as possible myself.

dude...a carb'd 350 and a 700r4 would be SWEET!!!

The over drive...imagine cutting down the hwy at 70mph with ease!!!

biggest expense is adapting the TC to the tranny.

Swap will be easiest with body off anyway.

I'd put on a 1' body lift while it's off.

youll also need a radiator with ports for a tranny cooler or one of those cool tranny coolers with built in fan that can be mounted anywhere including under the frame/body.

You can use a GM tilt steering column out of a blazer/suburban to adapt with shifter on the column

as much as i LOVE diesel...it's hard to beat the low end of a SBC and still have the top end for hwy cruising in our cruisers with a less than stellar selection of final drive ratios.

I biggest thing is this. I have been a member of this club about three years now. I am not the type to sit in the background and watch everyone else go and do and not participate. I have been fighting with the Dent for that amount of time. I am going to go ahead and swap the drivetrains out, sell what i can and try to friggin enjoy it for once. I have been wheeling with the club once in 3 years and i had to ride with someone else, eff that. Finding a motor to buy is not an issue but the adapters are expensive as hell. Would rather get it going again and start a motor swap fund to squirrel $ away in that way i can get what i want and not settle. Crap as much as i watch this site and craigslist i may very well buy another rig already swapped in a couple of years and be done with it. Rant over!

Now your talking. Every cruiser is a can of worms. What you think it needs will be half what it really needs and 3 times as much time. I'm not saying you couldn't do it but it's going to take a long time and require a lot of help. And if that helps dries up you will get stuck and never drive the cruiser. This coming term as President I have a lot of plans. A lot. Not as much as we used to but we are going to have some really cool things to do. And this will include our families most of the time. We are going back to our roots for the club. And while you could always ride with someone wouldn't it be nicer to go in your own vehicle?

Yep it would
