Wow! They are local and I was considering but holy s***! No longer. Thanks for this

I was stunned., all I've ever heard was how good the rebuilds were from them. But when I called and said this is what my problem is... The person on their end (Brian/Brad) said "send it to us and we can take care of it for you, sounds like it's a worn out original or a bad rebuild". I said this is your rebuild. It was rebuilt by you Redhead...........long pause... I was hung up on.

I looked on other forums and boxes are leaking within a few thousand miles and there is always an excuse of why it's not warrantied.

I have some boxes and may offer a rebuild service sooner than later. When I was in Wyoming the local machinist used to work and rebuild boxes for Lares. I just never got any to him for rebuild. They are not hard to rebuild, just tedious work.

Seriously disappointed in quality and service from them.

I emailed with Bryce @cruiseroutfit today while looking for a quick replacement and he commented this was something they had talked about adding to the line of offerings.

Whether I start rebuilding these or Kurt does... Some new blood that is cruiser specific/related is needed IMO.

Not the first time I've heard this about Redhead. And yeah they're local to me as well and I was warned away.
Glad I happened across this, I have a 62 box to send out...not going there now. (They are right here in Langley I think)

For the amount I paid for a rebuild only to have it leak after a couple hundred miles and the attitude I got from them, I will never go back. Not happy with them at all. I was thinking of sending the new to me 80 box to WTOF for a reseal.
Glad to see @cruiseroutfit may be an option! I would rather have them do it! :)

I'm signed up for a rebuild with core trade-in if I can get a reliably built one from you or Kurt.

For now I'm sticking with the vague, wandering, but reliable & non-leaking, steering.

AJ and I are slammed right now. I'm happy to squeeze more work in, but it may be a couple of weeks before we can get to these. I'm looking at bringing in 105 shafts for the 80 boxes and I'm in the CAD/CNC phase of drawing the 60 shafts for reproduction as well.

@cruiseroutfit may have a quicker turn than us right now. But regardless, I know either of us will stand behind our products.

700$ .......... :flush: is the way I look at it.

Wow this is terrible. When I was looking at having mine done it was by West Texas Off Road. When it returned I was less than impressed that I had to adjust it as much as I had to. I still wonder if they just swapped the box as it was the original one off my cruiser and was ok, just leaking a little. I thought then why there is not someone in the cruiser repair world not doing this. I hope you and Kurt start offering this service. I have a spare that needs to be rebuilt.

I used WTOR a few years ago for a steering box refresh. I ground a very distinct notch into my housing, the same housing was returned to me. Box has been fine since.
Just my experience.

That said I question what anyone really does to improve these other than seals cleaning and a paint job. Checking for wear and replacing those pieces is a true rebuild.
Would be good to see a real cruiser enthusiast take these on.

I was just surprised that I had to use the adjuster and it was not set to factory. At that it was almost at the end of adjustment. It has been fine for 4000 miles so that is a plus.

I agree, I believe it is just seals etc. I doubt they check for any wear.

I'm using a Redhead box in my 1968 Ford pickup (manual steering) and I've not been happy with it. So, it's not just the Land Cruisers that they've dropped the ball on. An expensive lesson and I will not buy another one.

I’m really loving the ToughDog steering damper. It feels great and fixed my radial pull from the tires.
Thanks!

J, I purchased a box from them on 3/18. They had one on the shelf so I requested that one to be shipped. Maybe I lucked out with them not rebuilding the core I sent to them. Daniel Foster is the owner.

Put a new lower end kit in the redhead and it was still leaking by at 7# of air.

pulled one of mine, tore it down, resealed and checked everything I could. Back together, painted installed and took it for a 28 mile drive. No leaks, seems much tighter and have full range of the wheel from stop to stop now.
