I think I might have sourced a turbo mini truck tranny relatively inexpensive that will bolt to the Soshin provided "R" bellhousing, maybe this is a blessing in disguise, as the turbo R151F is tougher, has a 23 Spline Tcase, and a lower first gear

if you want a lower first and don't care about 5th then have i got a deal for you...

I'm not familiar with the R141

The "5" in R151 denotes the number of gear speeds,so the R141 is a.........speed:D

Im not sure if they havent different diff ratios to compensate like some Toyotas

the R151:
1st 4.313
2nd 2.330
3rd 1.436
4th 1.000
5th 0.838
Rev 4.220

the R141:
1st 4.843
2nd 2.618
3rd 1.516
4th 1.000
5th 0.000
Rev 4.843

i stuck a brand new one of these into my bush pig... nice.

Well I went with the R151F Found one from a 1987 Toyota Turbo Truck with 93k on the odo, came with the Tcases(no bellhousing), $450 shipped to me from Missouri, that is a BARGAIN, these are like gold out here!

Just a quick note: if anybody is doing a 3L conversion ever, they use a Toyota 3VZE 3.0L V6 Clutch kit, I spent about 30 minutes at a local auto parts store with my old clutch that came with the 3L, having them pull various clutch kits from various vehicles...I THOUGHT that a Turbo truck one would work, but the dowels on the flywheel wouldnt line up... the one that lined up perfectly was from an 89 4runner v6 with a R150F tranny! Go figure...

Funny, I put the Downey off road clutch for the 22R that I had on the previous 2LT engine on, and it fit perfectly on the 3L flywheel. Then again the shaft on the RXXX transmissions are probably different in spline and diameter. The old L transmission bolted right up to the 3L. It's actually only the case that is an L50, I had Marlin crawler replace the guts with a G54 gearset. The L transmission lasted about 3,000 miles with the 2LT engine before the bearings burned out, wimpy POS...

Here's a pic or three with the engine in: https://forum.ih8mud.com/79-95-toyota-truck-tech/287867-3l-engine-into-82-p-u.html

Interesting indeed...

My 3L flywheel (on the 2LT-E) has a 22R-E clutch, coupled to an R150f. I wonder if it's an early/late model thing. I know I read on TDM that someone couldn't fit a 22R-E clutch onto the 3L flywheel, but did fit a V6 clutch.

FWIW--I'm not driving the faux-lux up that way this week (it'll be rental car for me  ).

Chang where are you located?, nice buildup!, I need to get some pictures going on mine, yesterday we pulled the body off the frame, getting ready to 4 link the FJ80 rear this week.

Where did you source your turbo manifold, and turbo? Did you drive the 3L when it was NA, versus turbo'ed?, if so, did you notice much of a difference? I have been told that if I do turbo mine, to stay under 10psi of boost..

Yeah it must be an early/late model thing, because my 3L flywheel wouldnt accept a 22re clutch(I had one from my 85 runner that had like 200 miles on it, and was hoping to save a few bucks using it), none of the dowels would line up...the 22re clutch was essentially about 1/4" in diameter smaller than the flywheel was set up for..aka 22RE vs. 3VZE

I'm in MD. I got the turbo setup from the fella who was offering one in this thread, sorry to scoop ya ;) :hhmm: I'll tell ya what. I do have an extra 2LTE manifold, let's say $100 + shipping? PM if interested. People tend to crap on the CT20 as a turbo, but I have yet to have a serious problem with one.
~$400 for a new unit on fleabay: Toyota Hilux surf / Hiace / Landcuiser 2.4L CT20 TURBO - eBay (item 350139405869 end time Jun-09-09 17:22:08 PDT) and it looks like the one that is "clocked" for the 2LTE.
and there's oil-feed/drain flange kits for ~$25
Try calling Mustang Connection - 1965 - 1973 Mustang Specialists and Foreign Car Importer they might have a used setup around. He does keep the exhaust/intake gaskets in stock (~$35). You will need the 2LTE gasket as the 3L is different. Try www.4wheelauto.com too, they are pretty good at traking down used stuff, although it may come on a slow boat from down-under.

Speaking of the 80 rear, I kinda half-thought that taking the dually rear off my old 1 ton Tacoma box van, and slapping that on the '82 lolux. JC Whitney even has a dually fender kit for the '82 longbed. Just get some 5" stacks and be the most bad-ass mini-truck on the block :hillbilly: .

Haha, yes you did scoop me!:), I emailed him, and he said somebody else bought it, NOW I know who! :D

I think I might rethink the dually semi approach if I were you, unless you put curb feelers on it :)

I want your manifold, but it might take a week or so to come up with some cash

Pics

Well as promised, here are some EARLY photos of my Diesel 3L powered Formula Toy rock crawler, it was an 85 4runner that was pretty heavily modified, but decided I wanted an all out buggy!

I wonder if anybody can chime in here, do you think the 3L Toyota injection pump would be anyway damaged/harmed with approx 3-5psi of fuel pressure being sent to it? we are trying to plan the fuel system for the buggy, and have came up with a secondary tank idea aside from the main fuel cell, there are pumps on Ebay that are designed for diesel that pump between 3-5 psi, so the fuel would be pumped from the main fuel cell to a small(1 gallon) secondary tank, but there is a possibility that when the secondary tank is filled, that the pressure will reach the injcetion pump, some people say that with that low of psi, that there should be no problem, but would like a 2nd opinion..
