Nothing to add to forward this bit (over my head), but if you want a Turbo setup from a toast 2LTE, give me a shout.

Joel.

Wow, that was fast. ;)

If I had a 3L, I'd be all over it.

How much USD?

well that attitude might work to your advantage, cause the more I have look at it, the less it's worth to me :D.

Well keep me in mind!, I am interested

I found a JDM 3L with 40-50k miles on it, with flywheel, the front accessories, and bellhousing, is $2900(shipped) a good price? it is more than I expected, anybody know a good source for low mileage JDM engines?

That's not too shabby pricewise, you might find a better deal shopping for yourself in Australia and having it shipped. I paid $2,800 for mine with no bellhousing and an auto. ring-gear (no flywheel), I thought it was a little high, but it was in stock and ready to ship. Used Japanese Engine (JDM) - Sound Damping / Rustproofing happened to have it on flea-bay.

It's a touch high, but with the bellhousing, it's probably worth it. Which bellhousing is it? To the R series, or to the W/G series?

And it includes the starter right? A reman 2.0Kw starter from Toyota runs more than $300.

Mine was complete with all ancilliaries. P/S pump, A/C compressor, starter, alternator belts, everything. for $2900 I would expect it to be the same deal. The bellhousings (if you can find one) usually go for ~$250 used for the 3L to Rxxx transmission. For me the 1KZTE is cheaper, but then I would have had to track down a bellhousing, move engine mounts/transmission crossmember, cut and weld the driveshaft, wire the ECU, etc., ad nauseum... I figured the higher price tag of the 3L wass offset by the PIA factor. Pretty much bolt in replacement for a 2LT. Not terribly hard to swap with a 22R setup either.

This one has the starter, bellhousing(dont know which one?, wonder how to decipher which is which with the casting numbers?) it also has the flywheel

I hope the bellhousing is the w/g series, or that will just be another thing to source...

here are the photos(bellhousing is not pictured) but they said they could get that included with the cost.

Also try to confirm that vehicle that the engine came out of. On another forum, a member converted an 80's pick up to 3L, but the engine came out of a hi-ace van. He said that on top of the engine, he had to source motor mounts, bell housing, powersteering pump, alternator bracket and oil pan. Quite a pain, but happy with the result.

Maybe a dumb question but I dont know a ton about Toyota diesels, would a 3L have a built in mechanical fuel pump(to pull fuel from the tank), or does it require an inline fuel pump?, if so what is a good pressure to have at the injection pump? I am used to cummins engines that require a lift pump. Also I would assume they have glow plugs?, or no? Were most 3L's a 12 volt system?

I am ordering up the 3L tomorrow! Also wonder where I could get some info on underhood wiring harneses on these engines..

None of the Toyota diesels need a lift pump if the pump is in good condition. Most of them can suck about 3-4 times as much fuel as the engine needs and use the excess to cool the pump.
Then it is either returned to the tank or back to the fuel line
