TJM T17 Bumper is coming Back!

I thought this thread was supposed to be about the TJM bumper coming back. Is TJM on the Dissent thread trying to pull away interest with it's low price or something or does everyone think 100 series owners are so stupid they might stumble on this thread and think this is the only bumper available? Dissent makes a good bumper, we get it.

Ben I would love a dissent front bumper. But 747$ with free shipping is just more affordable to a lot of people. If money were no option your front and rear bumpers would already be on my 100. Ben does your price include shipping?
Unfortunately it does not include shipping. I totally get it! Really the only reason I ever even started building bumpers I because I didn't have the money to spend on buying one.
Like I said, if the tjm is what Is best and feasible for you that go for it! Just try and support a vendor that supports the community if possible. There are several supporting vendors that are tjm dealers if memory serves me right.

To your point - yes, lots of guys on 'Mud are not familiar with Dissent and the other companies making 100-specific parts. In fact, as recently as page 13 of this 14-page thread, someone asked "Nice bumper, who makes it?", in reference to a Dissent bumper.

The purpose of any thread here is to discuss the merits, pros/cons, etc. If I posted a deal on steel winch line, I'd expect to see posts warning against that and explaining the merits of synthetic line.

If someone's new to off-roading, never bought an aftermarket bumper, never watched or been part of a recovery... they may see that TJM as a great bumper for those uses. I'd sure want to hear from guys who've been building and playing in this category for years, before spending $750 or 1,100.

I get it if you're putting a bumper on there purely for looks. For that, yes - the cheap TJM is the way to go, and Ben's bumper is overkill. But, if you think you might ever, even once, use the bumper for recovery - either with a mounted winch or as the anchor point, that extra couple hundred bucks will seem pretty insignificant.

TJM's quality:

Dissent Offroad's quality:
I missed the quality on that TJM picture? Didn't see it. It looks like a first student project in high school welding class!

The only reason to even think about the TJM is if you want something that looks like a real bumper, but just plan on driving your Cruiser to Costco to get groceries. If you are going to use it for winching and bashing, those nasty, slaggy welds and the thin plate make it totally unacceptable, and maybe even unsafe.

@benc - those weld puddles are welding porn. :)

The workmanship in the Dissent is epic, and I've spent my share of MUD time drooling over Bens' work.
But, I did end up getting the TJM, mostly just because it was quicker order. I paid $1,2 25.50 for the bumper (with T13 bull bar), $236 to ship. Then $350 to powder coat.

I guess I’m in the minority. No way I can convince my financial advisor on a Dissent. I like the BlueBerry also, but this is more on my price point even tho I’m in no position to buy.

What I’m trying to say is that not everyone can afford the bling. I also don’t think these bumpers would sell if they fell apart. So while not the uber quality of a Dissent I would imagine they would have to do the job. I imagine they would if they wanted to keep selling.

This is from someone who is not a welder and never owned a steel bumper. Pardon my ignorance if I don’t know if these are quality bumpers for the price.

There's definitely a good market for a lightweight, non-winch bumper that is $749 to your door and can be installed in an afternoon, with no modification to the frame, no trips to the powdercoater, and no wait. Glad to see the T17 back. The 100 folks will always appreciate more choices.

Especially, the guy that gets into a little fender bender and insurance approves R&R the OE bumper. Boom, order the T17.... little to no cost added to the insurance bill.

Who has them at $747 w/ free shipping?

To make sure we're talking about the same light set-up, here's a picture of what I received from TJM, along with the installation instructions. As you can see, there is a 3-wire pigtail that plugs into the light fixture. The pigtail has a green wire that is associated with the clear fog light, a black ground wire, and a red wire that is associated with the amber turn signal/parking light.

In my opinion, the green wire would be connected to the positive factory fog light wire, and the black would be connected to the chassis as a common ground. That leaves the ONE red wire to connect to the factory turn signal/parking positive light wiring. Unfortunately, it can only be connected to ONE of the factory wires (EITHER the turn signal wire OR the parking light wire), leaving one of those functions inoperative.

Comparing the provided light setup with the installation instructions, it seems that there should be two separate harnesses: one 3-wire harness (white & brown & yellow, as described in the instructions) for the amber turn signal/parking light, and one 2-wire harness for the clear fog light. Of course, the 2 harnesses could be combined into one 4-wire harness if there was a common ground wire. In any case, the turn signal/parking light requires 3 wires in order to function properly.

Thus, I still contend that something is amiss...if anyone else has done the install, your input is welcome! Also, @Phil Damon, if you can comment on this it would be helpful.

I spliced those marker lights directly into the turn signals. When lights are on the white bulb is a running light (just like the oem running light:turn signal) and when the blinker is on the Amber bulb in the bumper blinks! Haha. Keep your oem fog light harness free for some accessory lights. I have these rounds spliced into them; no new switch needed. I also thought the bumper lights were led, but they are not so didn’t even need a new relay or whatever. Works for me. My buddy really did all the wiring as he has the better skills and equipment. If you’re in Colorado and into RC crawlers check out his shop in Colorado Springs. The crawl space

Anyone put the T17 on an LX? I saw the pics from Phil, but would love to see some from a satisfied customer (esp. on a white truck).

Thx, CB

Yeah, so where the heck does one purchase one of these bumpers? Is Slee the only place?

There website has a dealer locator

Unfortunately for you it doesn't look like there is a dealer in Minneapolis. The closest to you though would be Dubuque Iowa, which looks about 4.5 hours away. Maybe you can work out some shipping options from one of the dealers though?

I called that dealer, and they need the rep to get back to them for price and availability. Probably going to wind up being a pain in the ass.

CarID has this bumper for $750 with free shipping. Just FYI for the folks looking for one.

TJM 4x4® 074ST17A81ZDS - T17 Front Bumper

Nice! Has anyone used carid? For some reason, I view them with suspicion. No clue why.
