Third world manufacturing was the point he was trying to get across.

Remember the ultra-cool Japanese 90915-20004 oil filter? Production got moved to Thailand and it is no longer a synthetic medium, plain old pleated paper. That filter is shipped back to Japan and is being used on the engine assembly lines....:bang:

If a part is not in a Toyota box, it is not OEM. It is aftermarket OE.

Copy that

I also dread getting notifications from this thread as well!

Eventually all humans ran out of time ( or will ) to " fix " and instead just buy a new one .. I'm not sure what was first, if this or the Company / Manufacturer making it cheaper non fixable stuff .. but it happens and it's what mostly we have now ..

The media change is curious, and it would be interesting to read the evidence supporting the switch. So far Toyota methodology has stood the test of time so it's a pretty fair bet that this decision wasn't made lightly. And it should be noted that Thai culture differs considerably from Chinese culture. The same goes for Indonesia. There is pride in workmanship and a regard for the end consumer that, for whatever reason, seems to be lacking outside of Hong Kong. Perhaps this is why we see Thailand and Indonesia on the box rather than China.

Cost/benefit analysis. Pleated paper is "good enough" and consumers are, for the most part, not willing to pay for "the best" so why bother with it? The Japanese filter was twice as much money and only a few "nuts" like me were willing to pay that.

On the other hand when you are used to getting tenderloin it is sad to find only Spam on the shelf. If you are hungry enough you go with it.

87150-60330 - RADIATOR ASSY, HEATER

That's the complete heater core assembly and it's gone. The heater core and inlet pipes (87107-60130 and 87248-60430) are still available, however.

Dual stage oil filter.

So they are not super ceded?

For the US market, yes, they supersede to the 90915-YZZD3 filters.

But they are not discontinued.... Meaning no longer available at all from Toyota. That's not the case with the classic "big" Land Cruiser filter.

These filters are used on too many applications worldwide for them to be discontinued at this time.

I thought this thread was about nla parts for the us market? This filter I posted is not the same as the superseded # you posted.

This thread is for ANY discontinued 80 series parts. There is a big difference between discontinued worldwide and a localized regional market part supersession.

Went through the first few pages, but didn't look at all 14 as I'm on my phone, but the blue/gray interior pieces are becoming more scarce, like dash trim, shifter surround panel, and center console top are all unavailable when I looked a couple months ago.

I have a factory SST cap wrench in my tool box in Abq. I bought it in 1979.

just coz I'm curious .. how much it was back in the good old days ?

That was 37 years ago. I do remember that I was having a hard time justifying the cost.......
