Turned on the AC this morning and it is MUSTY smelling. Ugh. Where to start? The interior doesn't smell musty normally.

I'd start with the leaf catcher under the wipers and the condenser box under the dash. Neither is easy though.

Yeah, I haven't cleaned either out since I bought it last year. It's probably the condenser.

Condenser is not under the dash, the evaporator is under the dash. Try taking a blow gun and shoot compressed air up the evaporator drain hose under the truck. They get clogged sometimes and fill up with water which gets stale and smells nasty. Just be careful, if it is clogged and you unclog it, water will likely come shooting out the hose once unclogged.

Interesting. I will check this. Normally I see a huge puddle under my truck from condensation. I didn't check this morning after running the AC. I will run it and see what it looks like.

Yea their should be lots of videos and info on the Web of doing this. Usually just takes a quick blip of air to clear

She's draining condensation like crazy. I'll hit it with a blast of air tonight and see just to make sure.

It's not plugged. I blew air in hose last night. No difference. It's just vaguely musty first thing in the morning. Then it's totally good. Weird.

The evaporator probably needs a good cleaning. I'm putting it off until I swap the motor later this summer. Don't want to have to evacuate the AC twice.

We had a vehicle that always smelled musty. We paid a lot to have it shampooed and detailed, we tried everything except replacing the carpet. We rented an ozone machine and ran that inside. It still smelled bad. Finally I saw a Don Aslett cleaning store in the area and they sold me a pump sprayer with X-O Neutralizer. Every time the car smelled bad (humid days, hot days, etc.) I pumped a few sprays of that towards the back of the car and after using 2 bottles over a summer the car never smelled bad again. I'm sure there was a more direct way of doing it, but it worked. I bet if you sprayed that into your fresh air intake it would clear this up until you get around to doing it right. It's not like febreeze that masks it, it really doesn't have a smell. It kills it. Just a thought on a workaround.

Toyota has a kit that you spray in the hvac system that cleans and disinfects. At least at the Lexus dealer they had it. Not sure about Toyota.

Wouldn't mind more info on this product. I cleaned my evaporator last year when I swapped out the expansion valve. I'm getting the musty smell more and more recently. I'm guessing something that can kill of the bacteria would work well.

Installed my dorkel.

I know...

There is no way that u-joint was on a running, driving car! s*** that must have been on a generator pto shaft on the Titanic!

It has often been said but I will repeat it. These trucks are so damn tough it encourages PO's to neglect them and that is damn fine proof if you ask me! Lol

It helps to grease U joints. This is the rear.

It's partially my fault too. I thought I had replaced them. But I had done it on my 92 and my son's 92. Too many Cruisers...too few brain cells...

You need this.....

Now if mine would get back from the damn powder-coater I'd post a freakin picture of mine. I love how 2-3 weeks turns into a month. Why can't people wrap their brains around the concept of UNDER-PROMISE and OVER-DELIVER.

S, this is my biggest hurdle when working with others... I think they do it so they can get the business and then apologize or place blame elsewhere when they are questioned. One of the reasons I've gone through 4 laser cutters in the past 2-3 years... If its going to be 6-7 weeks, I'm fine with that, just let me know up front... Don't tell me 2-3 weeks and then start back peddling. It's the way of most service companies these days. Truly tragic. I absolutely hate to tell a customer a date and have to let them know a supplier is behind. I do all I can to keep communications open with my customers. They usually know the update the same day I do. Just makes for a more pleasant and professional transaction.

Did you take yours to Front Range or Ultimate? I think my 200 customer went to Front Range and he's already got his back and installed. He picked his up 2 weeks after you did....

Hell, I wish I had a coater around here. The closest one (that is decent and affordable) is in Salt Lake/ Midvale, UT area.
