Getting ready to do this to the LX next weekend. What did you guys do with the black rubber type strips that are on the roof? And how to go about taping/prepping sunroof area?

Well,

Looks like JCardona and I have both gone you know what deep and completely Monstalined our 80's recently. I know there's a plethora of others who have done sections of theirs, and others have lined their rigs with various different liners.

Post your lined rig in this thread, color & liner type so that those who follow can see the different options & ask questions to us now seasoned veterans.

Desert sand monstaliner. Did the job by myself which was a bit of a pain so get a helper if you can. I used drywall tape and fiberglass body filler. I also scuffed up and painted all the trim and grill. Used regular krylon primer and paint. I used adhesion promoter on the mirrors. My window moulding clips mostly all broke when I pulled them so planning to replace them might be a good strategy. I was able to salvage a few so I just replaced the front for now. This took me probably 16 hours total over three days. One day to break the truck down, one to paint, one to reassemble once dry. I took off the hood and the door handles and snorkel and left the rest in place.

Just pull the sunroof, you’ll be better off. I cracked mine sliding across it while prepping the roof. You’ll be able to do a better job. I taped down the gutters and trimmed with a razor.

On that note, pull as much trim as possible, the more you pull the better it will come out and easier your taping will be.

I ended up puking almost everything.

Anyone ever do Toyota Inferno (orange) in liner??? Love the color and wanted to see if anyone ever did it in monstaliner.

Are y’all just taping off the exterior and spraying or are you cutting in and getting the door jams and everything? I think I at least want to spray the entire tailgate and get the large door jam area over the rear fender well.

Here is my build thread on the monstaliner "journey" I had a friend do a mini truck and another do his 70 series after seeing mine :smokin: Filling all those 140 holes was a B*$%!

What color green did you use here? I have a no rust but sun baked Arizona rig that I wanted to do up right before I add my Kut Snake Fender Flares, White Knuckle Rock Sliders and PrinSu Roof Rack. Welcome any advice to get me started. Hoping to get a close to the OEM green as I can.

Most removing the door handles and bumpers before rolling? Welcome any prep advice!

@NYIronPig I rolled over the door handles. I pulled the lights all around, rear bumper, rear air damn and Front valence so I could leave the front bumper / winch / light. I masked and painted around the windshield sprayers, wipers and mirrors. I masked over the front air inlets in front of the windshield and the rear land cruiser badge (not yet masked in photo. I used a plastic adhesion promoter on the door handles and mirrors before rolling the Monstaliner.

A consideration for rolling the door handles...they will need to be painted in the open position or you’ll be like me going back and cutting with a razor to be able to open them :bang:

good point, I painted my door handles closed (after masking off the locks), similarly the rear view mirrors were painted in the out position. After the paint dried for ~2 hours, I used a utility knife and pick to get all the moving joints cleared and functional. I think painting open would cause similar clearance issues, but nothing would be painted shut.

I wondered how you goter done in two and a half days. :p
